Owen for Tomorrow

Donation protected
On Thursday 26th April, 2018 my 11 year old nephew, Owen was taken to the Mildura Base Hospital, with blood tests resulting in enough concern to fly him the next day to the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital.  After going through a lot of tests on the Saturday he was moved to the Cancer Care Unit and diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma and started Chemotherapy on Sunday 29th April.  Yes, that is how quickly an 11 year old and his family’s life can be turned upside down and thrown into an emotional spin.  Owen has been in the Royal Children’s hospital undergoing very intensive and invasive Chemotherapy since and will be there until at least September as a minimum.

Burkitts Lymphoma is a rare cancer of the Lymphatic System and is the fastest growing human tumour. With Owen diagnosed as already having the cancer in his lymph nodes and bone marrow, also tumour masses in his throat and stomach, the doctors had no choice but to attack it very vigorously with immediate chemotherapy.  Left undiagnosed Owen would have only survived a few more weeks, so we truly thank the amazing doctors at Mildura Base and Royal Children’s Hospitals as he now has a high chance of remission.

Owen is absolutely amazing, visibly you can see how much the treatment is affecting him and he is connected to many tubes and needles 24 hours each day, but he never complains, always gives you a smile and very positively takes it all in his stride.

His family does not leave his side and his brother and sisters (all the age of 15 and under) love him so very much.

Being able to be there to support Owen means not having the same level of income from work, and there are additional costs to his family including accommodation, travel and medical expenses on top of keeping up with mortgages and bills that don’t stop flowing in.  As a result of the side effects of the Chemotherapy, Owen will also have ongoing medical costs once he goes into full remission (Which he will as he is a little trooper!!)

Every little bit will help assist Owens recovery and his family.  So please, if you can donate or support them in any way, we are so greatly appreciative.

Love you Owen, you are our Superman  xx
