On August 30, 2017, we lost our dear Ovidio Berra, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor, and friend. This summer, Ovie grew very ill, very quickly; none of us thought we would lose him so soon at the young age of 50.
For those of us who were privileged to know him -- whether as "Ovie", "Villito", "Coach" -- if there's one thing he instilled in you, it was to work hard and believe in yourself. It is with that kind of energy that he has built a foundation for his two teenage sons, Alex and Miguel, to pursue their dreams of becoming professional musicians.
Ovie was always there to help anyone through difficult times. As an addictions counselor, he was dedicated to helping those he counseled through unimaginable difficulties. As a coach of his kids' various sports teams over the years, he encouraged dozens of their teammates to believe in themselves and each other. Ovie gave nothing but love and encouragement to everyone he cared for-- especially his sons. In Ovie's absence, we want to carry his spirit to lend support to Alex and Miguel as they enter their final years of high school.
All funds raised will go toward providing comfort and stability for Alex and Miguel.
Ovie's brother and niece, Humberto and Monica Berra, will manage this fundraiser. All funds raised will be placed in trust only to be accessed by Alex and Miguel upon their 18th birthdays.
