Welcome to the Outdoor Sculpture Museum's official fundraising page. Founded by Contemporary artist Shane Townley under the Shane Townley Arts Foundation INC 501c3 EIN 46-2652320. This is a non-profit and free museum open to the public daily and launching in early 2024 in Joshua Tree, CA.
Directly across the street from the 'Welcome the Joshua Tree' Sign, the 2.5 acres the foundation purchased in 2022 is touching 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, CA. On the opposite side of the highway from Copper College.
The museum will house and exhibit the founder's life's work as well as more than 50 California artists in the Space and Light genre all using mediums such as rock, wood, mud, concrete, metal and more in sculpture, photography, paintings and drawings. With artworks in the subjects of Conflict and Adversity, Freedom and Social Change, Heroes and Leaders, Humans and the Environment, Identity, Immigration and Migration, Industry, Invention, and Progress.
In addition to an outdoor sculpture museum, the main indoor facility is in the permit planning stages with Joshua Tree and the county of San Bernardino. The plans for artists in residence structures are also in the planning stages. Fundraising efforts are commencing this year for the foundation, septic and plumbing aspects of the project and will continue in phases so follow us for more future projects.
In 2021, Joshua Tree National Park welcomed more than 3 million sightseers, a 50 percent increase from 2015. In the town of Yucca Valley, not far from the park gates, tax revenues from hotels and vacation rentals went up sixfold in five years. Residents described the influx as a mix of real estate developers, big-city exiles, and people buying second homes. House prices have exploded. The high desert is already a boasting area with award-winning and noteworthy artists. The need for more cultural outlets will grow with the booming area. This growth is giving way for more expression and creativity that cultural supporters can choose to be a part of while supporting history in the making.
The 2.5 acres will hold 50 sculptures by California Contemporary Artists, a Museum Gift Shop as well as Housing Structures and Classrooms for Ceramic, Pottery, Sculpture and Painting classes.
Supporters of the Museum will go down in history with family name plaques according to the donation tier amount. Even though the Museum is free to enter there is also an annual membership available to select supporters.
This round of funding will go to the "artist supply fund" for sculptures and artworks.
