Outback Cleanups Australia

Outback Cleanups Australia is a self funded organization dedicated to removing rubbish from remote coastal areas, bush lands and marine environments around Australia. Outback Cleanups Australia (O.C.A) was started in 2019 by me, Boenardi Langford, a 23 year old carpenter from SA .
Following a work accident that left me unable to continue my trade, I have focused my time travelling around and removing rubbish from our beautiful country. I'm doing this for the planet and all who share it, especially for the next generations so they will have a future that is not saturated in plastic and unlivable.

I have launched this Go Fund Me campaign to help support me to maintain the equipment that I use on the tracks and in the field picking up and removing rubbish of all descriptions; from illegal household dumping to marine debris and everything in between.  And then there is the waste disposal fees which are really costly but integral to what O.C.A  does to get the  rubbish somewhere where it will responsibly disposed of.

 Your donations will be used to keep my vehicle and equipment (boats, trailers and outboards), on the road and in the water, pay for waste disposal fees  and help me to maintain a social presence to keep people updated with what O.C.A is up to.

Though I was born in northern NSW in 1995, my early years were spent  growing  up in Mintabie, a small outback opal mining town in the  far north of South Australia. When i was around two years old, my mum bought my sister and I to live on the south coast at a place called Sellicks Beach, where I developed a huge love for the ocean and it's surroundings but without ever forgetting my desert roots.

I've been living on the south coast for over 19 years now and have been watching the plastic tide rise as more and more people come to holiday and play on the beautiful beaches I call home.  I first noticed the problem of plastic pollution when I was just 4 years old,  when my mum would take us for walks along the Sellicks cliffs and down to the beach everyday to swim. Along with avoiding the odd mulga and red belly black snakes that call the sharp cliffs of Sellicks home, I found myself picking up lots of single use plastic bags. This was the start of a fire in me that has never gone out!

I struggled in high school, so at the end of year 9 I left to work in a kitchen full time, a job I  very much enjoyed. I did however, not like being inside for 12 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week, so I started a carpentry apprenticeship 5 days a week and reduced my hours in the kitchen to weekends. I had always loved working with timber and was keen to make a career out of it. Unfortunately I was in an accident while at work in 2016, severely damaging my lower back and putting me out of work without pay for 10 months. Despite being told I may never wear a nail bag again, I was determined to finish my apprenticeship as I had already completed 3 years with only 1 to go. In the meantime I needed to keep my mind active, so I started walking the beach as much as my body would allow and removing rubbish. It wasn't until I started doing this that I realised just how bad the problem had become.

Since then I have been taking my vehicle and trailer down to beaches and into bush land, picking up and removing as much rubbish as possible/tons of it every year. I returned to work as an apprentice carpenter in February 2018, doing light duty carpentry work, but unfortunately my body did not hold up and my back injury completely stopped me from doing my trade in December 2018. Not knowing what to do with my self  anymore, I rested my back  until I was able to drive and then I hit  the road with one incentive; REMOVE AS MUCH RUBBISH AS POSSIBLE FROM ANYWHERE I COULD FIND IT! I uploaded photos onto my personal socials and had  overwhelmingly positive response and support from friends and followers, so I've decided to go all in and do it FULL TIME! 

Currently  I am self funded  but am in the process of registering  and turning O.C.A into a fully fledged charity organisation.   
I ask for your support as the more money raised, the more places I will get to and the more rubbish I will be able to remove from our beautiful country Australia! And, at the end of the day our country is worth it, right?
