Out of the Ashes: A Lions's Heart
Out of the Ashes is a bursary through the Phoenix Center, in Kamloops, BC for youth who have been in recovery for 1 year minimum.
Juli Lion joined our roller derby league, The Tournament City Derby Dolls and was our youngest member to join in 2016 at 18 and she jumped in with both feet. Sports were a large part of Juli's recovery and roller derby was one of her newest ventures. With her sharp wit and larger than life personality she brought joy and adventure to everyone her path crossed.
Unfortunately, she lost her battle with addictions in september at just 19 years old. This left a hole in the heart of our league and community. We miss her and want to supper her family and honour her memory. With support from her family, our league decided to support and reach out to the Phoenix Center where we could help raise money for the Bursary Program, Out of the Ashes.
We are hosting a co-ed Fundraising Scrimmage on July 22, 2017 at Westsyde Centenial park in the outdoor lacross box at 3:30 and raising money through go fund me.
