Andrew- Our Tiny Mystery

Andrew is beautiful. There is no better balm to the soul than holding this baby, cooing into steely-blue eyes rimmed by lush lashes and ruffling his dark fluffy (and ample) hair. Andrew is a challenge. From turning in the womb after a 33-week ultrasound to breech position (leading to an emergency C section), to clamping his jaw so tight at birth that the doctor could not suction him, to his little startles that we now know are myoclonic seizures, doctors and specialists have been scratching their heads, running extensive batteries of tests, providing lots of potential diagnoses, but no definite answers. Andrew is a gift. He teaches us patience. He helps us remember to count every little blessing. He encourages me to practice self control when it comes to over-Googling. He tests our courage. He strengthens our marriage. Andrew's early infantile spasms need to be controlled 100% for any sort of good prognosis. Because this is such a rare syndrome, treatment can be elusive.
