Our Beautiful Rachel

I want to thank you so much for your desire to help my daughter as she battled cancer. It really means a lot to me to know that there are people still out in the world that care for others and want to help.

My 25 yr old daughter, Rachel, was diagnosed last October with uterine cancer. After 3 months of chemo and radiation, it was discovered that the cancer had not shrunk (which was the size of a football) as much as the doctors had hoped and the cancer had spread to her lungs. Rachel had gone on to have the necessary procedures that had come up as her body began to experience more challenges.

Allow me to tell you a little about Rachel. She is an amazing young woman, employee and mother. Rachel is the type of person that has been raised to be respectful, civic minded and considerate.  She was a girl scout for 9 years and during that time she went above and beyond to earn the top achievements as well as being active in community service. Rachel was a very compassionate person and always put the needs of others first before her own. She was an athlete for 9 years as well, which skills she was able to use when she worked with the Boys and Girls Club.

While Rachel was a student at Northern Arizona University, she worked 2 part time jobs to help support herself.  During her employment she was bestowed with the honor of Employee of the Year, which can give you an idea as to the type of person she is and work ethic she had.  Both positions she held were in new fields to her in which she not only mastered but excelled in. Last year Rachel was the top employee at her position with Radio Shack until her leave.

Rachel was blessed with her son last July and that experience had been bitter sweet for her.  While she was a girl scout she took a babysitting course and feel in love with caring for children so when the time came for her to care for her own, she was not able to.  She had a difficult pregnancy and it was originally chalked up to being "just one of those things" that can happen during pregnancy (daily nausea and pain). It wasn't until the 6th trip to the ER that the tumor was discovered. She was connected immediately with the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the treatments began.  Along with all of that, was the doctor's lack of ability to treat her constant pain.  The pain management team suggested having a pain pump placed inside of her back and so that surgery was scheduled.  While it was successful and had alleviated most of her pain, but not all, she still had some restrictions. There were also side effects from the chemo that compound with the pain causes her to have limitations.

While we waited for a clinical trial to be opened for her, she was doing all that she could to have a normal life and enjoy her son. As you can imagine, some days were better than other. Rachel spends 90% of her day/night in bed. When the good days came, she was able to feed her son, play with him on the bed and now even watch him try to begin to walk.

Thank you all for wanting to help with the final expenses.
