Our Beautiful Cas

Our beautiful Cas has been attempting to beat the intrusion of Breast Cancer upon her body for around 16 months now. Despite the gruelling treatment, including a radical mastectomy, radiotherapy and many rounds of unforgiving Chemotherapy. She completed her Master's Degree in Counselling at Monash University (with straight HD’s, earning not one, but two Deans Awards, for Academic Achievement and Academic Excellence). With the support and care of her wonderful partner Heather, she also managed to fulfil her private practice and beloved lecturing obligations.
As is her gentle and quiet way, she has kept her journey a private one, for many reasons, sharing only with her close and loving family and nearest and dearest friends. I consider it a privilege to be one of her inner circle.
So....this is likely to come as a shock to many.
We are all devastated to discover, that as of last Friday, scans and MRI’s revealed that the Cancer has metastasised in three areas of her brain. Cas’ diagnosis is terminal and has resulted in an immediate cessation of all her work, with no return to work plan.
What is and always has been important to Cas, both personally and professionally as a counsellor and therapist, is to LIVE IN THE MOMENT. Appreciate the NOW. Which is exactly what Cas intends to do with each moment, while she is capable of cognition
and movement. As Cas, Heather, their family and friends have shared this journey. So many friends and colleagues are asking how they can help or contribute toward this decision to live each moment and create as many memories as possible while it is still possible. If you are one of the many who are asking how to help, or you would like to contribute, your contribution, however big or small, will help to alleviate some of the many challenges that will undoubted follow. And also help someone, who has dedicated her life and career to helping others, enjoy what is predicted to be the last few months of her life. Let’s hope they are wrong and we are blessed with her presence for a little longer. However, the angels are calling her.
