<div>A few years ago, we asked for help after my husband’s horrific motorcycle accident that took his leg. He’s a veteran, and at the time, we were just trying to piece our life back together.

<div>Now, we’re asking for help again—but this time, it’s for something I never imagined having to plead for: <strong><em>basic medical care after losing our unborn twins.</em></strong>

<div>We had been trying for almost two years. We were hopeful. We were already imagining how our lives would grow. But last week, during a routine ultrasound, we were told both babies had passed.

<div>No movement. No heartbeat. No life.

<div>Since then, my body has not miscarried naturally. I’m still carrying the weight of a pregnancy that’s no longer viable. As time passes, my risk of infection increases—and the trauma has been otherworldly. Physically. Emotionally. Spiritually. I need help immediately.

<div>I’m grieving. I’m waiting. And I’m stuck in a cruel limbo between heartbreak and a system that doesn’t make it easy for women like me to access safe, timely care.

<div>The local hospital quoted us $10,000 for the hospital portion alone—and that doesn’t include the anesthesiologist or doctor’s fees, which are tracking over $5,000. I’ve applied for assistance. I’ve called every hospital in-state. I’ve looked into financing, insurance, Medicaid, and county aid. I’ve been turned away, put on waitlists, or told I don’t qualify. Researching like this while grieving, working, trying to take care of my family, with the shock has been the absolutely worse experience. And now we are here.

<div>Some might suggest I “just take the pill.” But with twins, at this gestation, that process can be long, traumatic, and incomplete—especially after weeks of retained pregnancy. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about safety and dignity. What I need is a D&amp;C—a standard procedure that could offer relief, closure, and protection from further complications.

<div>At this point, I may have to leave the state just to get the care I need, which would add additional costs, time off work, accommodations, and logistics. I'm trying to avoid making this more taxing on my already grieving family.

<div>This isn’t an abortion.

<div>This isn’t elective.
</div>
<div>This is basic medical care after fetal demise.
</div>

<div>If we lived in another state—or had better coverage, or a different ZIP code—this wouldn’t be happening. I wouldn’t be begging strangers for help.

<div>Miscarriage care isn’t illegal here—but it might as well be if you don’t have insurance. Hospitals quote $10,000+, clinics don’t offer this service, financial aid is limited and takes over 60 days to review, and families like ours are left navigating a medical crisis with no clear path forward.
