Our Soul Dog, Lucy

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to click this link and read it. I know life is busy, but sometimes things happen that stop you in your tracks.

 

This is Lucy. Lucy is one of those dogs that you meet and realize there aren’t many dogs out there like her. Out family got our sixth family member in October of 2013 - the most loving and caring black poodle puppy. Lucy immediately brought us closer together, she was our furry shoulder to lean on when things got hard. She always knew how to make us smile in the darkest times, whether that be her nudging her head into our shoulders to “give a hug” or laying quietly by our side with her head on our laps, offering nothing but unconditional and unwavering love. 

 

Our world began to stir late August, Lucy began to itch at her ear and eye, she was restless at times she should have been sleeping in bed with one of us, she developed a head tilt and began to stumble around the house.

 

We brought her into Urgent Care and proceeded with a 30 day antibiotic treatment and ear ointment. Lucy began her first treatment and days passed, she failed to show improvement - maybe even the opposite. 

 

After many different doctors and specialists, the University of Minnesota veterinary neurologist team welcomed our Lucy with open arms. The team gave Luce a thorough neurological exam. When the head neurologist came into the room, the thought of our old reality ceased to exist.

 

Lucy was diagnosed with a brain tumor the night of September 8th. Treatments and imagining were discussed and questions were answered. The unfortunate reality of the expense of caring for an animal loved one began to set in. No family should ever feel the pain of feeling so helpless to save their animal family member due to the financial expenses of veterinarian care.

 

Our sweet Lucy’s prognosis is poor. We were given two months left to share with our rock, our Lucy. I’m not sure where we are to go with this, but we owe it to Lucy to not give up on her. I’m reaching out to the amazing people of this world who know the love of an animal, how unbreakable that bond is, and the amazing chance to meet their soul animal. Lucy is our soul animal.

 

I don’t know what the future holds, but I know Lucy deserves to receive the treatment that gives her a chance at life again. She deserves to have the large DQ blizzard instead of the pup cup. She is so so worth it. Please please help us keep our soul dog here with us and make these precious last months count.
