Help us get Roxy to the spine specialist she so desperately needs!
On the afternoon of Oct. 27th we came home to find our beloved 5 yr old miniature daschund in pain & having trouble standing on her hind legs. We suspect she tried jumping in a chair & suffered a serious injury to her spine.
We got her to the local vet asap & started her on steroids, pain meds, & muscle relaxers immediately. She had a pain response in her feet & had control of her potty functions, but her legs were partially numb & she could not balance her weight on her hind legs. The vet ordered complete crate rest & 24hr monitoring for 8 weeks. She seemed to be making slight progress on the 6th day, & after 7 days it was time to decrease the dosage of steroids, per the vet. That's when Roxy's nightmare got even worse.
Within hours of decreasing her steroids, Roxy's condition deterioated very fast. She was unable to use her hind legs at all. There was very little pain response in her left foot & none at all in the right foot. An emergency call to the vet & he decided to increase the steroid dose again for 5 more days as her spinal swelling was getting bad. He was extremely concearned with hearing of her decline & gave us the news we were terrified to hear.... we MUST go see a specialist asap to save not only her back, but her life!
This is devistating news for our family as we have been dealing with my elderly mother's health the last several months & the death of my grandmother & it has left us financially drained. News of Roxy's diagnosos could not have come at a worse time for our family... I have no recources available to get her to the specialist to save her. We are trying to sell my mothers home, but no way we could sell it fast enough to get her to the specialist in time to save her. We are at a total loss of how to get the funds we need to help her so quickly! A friend urged us to start this go fund me campaign so we could try to save our baby.
I have been unable to have children, so my furbabies are truly my babies & watching Roxy's pain is tearing my heart out! Her house mates are so sad & confused... they can't understand why their friend is in such pain & why she can't snuggle with them. She needs help desperately & I will try everything in my power to get her the help she needs. She is a fighter & we will fight with her!
11/8/17 - Her immediate need is to get to the specialist & get an MRI in the next few days to see if surgery is an option for her injury. If surgery is an option, then the costs range from $6,000 - $8,000 in vet expenses alone. If we are able to raise enough to get her there in time, I will give detailed updates on her condition & prognosis.
