What is Nisa Homes?
Nisa Homes is a project of the National Zakat Foundation. "Nisa Homes strives to empower women to regain the confidence, means, and ability to start afresh." Their vision is "to be the premier sheltering project for Muslim women and children across Canada."
"Nisa Homes is the first and only transitional home for Immigrant, Refugee and Muslim women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We are a safe haven for women experiencing domestic violence, poverty, homelessness or seeking asylum. This home is a centre of empowerment where the vulnerable are given hope, the broken are rebuilt and the helpless are given their dignity."
"Nisa Homes is a place for women to live comfortably and feel safe in a supportive home environment, to explore their cultural identity, and to directly connect with their community. Culture is vital to immigrant, refugee and Muslim women, and as such we work hard to provide them with a sense of self and personal identity. By providing this environment we hope to enable women to feel safe and supported to develop the tools needed to achieve independence and self-sustainability."

Did you know that Toronto has the largest population of Muslims in North America? Yes, you read that right. Not within Canada but in all of North America. One Nisa Homes in the Greater Toronto Area just isn't cutting it when you compare it to the number of Muslims living there. We need that second home and we need your help to do it. ⠀
Living in abuse is a scary, lonely and traumatic experience. Creating a safe haven for women and children who are victims of abuse is of utmost importance. Abuse can often go overlooked, but at Nisa Homes we see it and we want to help. On average, Nisa Home receives three applications a week from the East end of the GTA. It's heartbreaking to turn away every woman who asks if they have accommodation closer to where they live. This is a barrier women face in leaving an abusive partner and we want to help them feel safe in their own communities.
This Ramadan, we want to support Nisa Homes in their process of opening a new home in Scarborough. Want to join us in making a difference? We're raising money to benefit the National Zakat Foundation, and any donation will help make an impact directly on Nisa Homes.
