In Port Hedland (WA's North West Region), dust pollution from the busy Iron ore port is now being considered so serious, that the State Government has proposed a scheme to voluntarily buy back properties from affected residents' and homeowners in an attempt to reduce risk.

For those who purchased their properties during the boom, when the State Government was encouraging population growth, market prices were sky-high, being compared to the property prices in Manhattan.

The state Government have continued to move to have the new Town Planning scheme pushed on the residents and owners that have serious consequences to the lifeblood, amenity, lifestyle and values of our properties. There is an opportunity to comment on this now, closing 31st July 2020. If you care about our Town of Port Hedland, and want to see it remain a vibrant residential area please read on.

The Government has also introduced a “voluntary buyback scheme" of which details are very vague. The people of the West End are being pushed out of their homes by manipulation of Local, State & Federal Governments and of course the mining companies. For many, these homes are family homes and investment for others. Investors have made decisions over the years, by government promotions “Pilbara Cities” and other population growth systems in this same area.

The true situation is that most houses are 60 plus years old, many beach front, past their use by date and as a land owner, we have no rights to rebuild or improve our homes. It is overall a small part of the population here, about 420 properties but it is our home !

We need your help! There are many owners trying to get some traction and full understanding of what options and rights we have, that we can fight for thru the system. This involves having experts smarter than our small group to fight this.

If you can consider a donation to the fund, it will make a serious difference to Port Hedland and how we can save the Port residential area. We have a $121 million marina starting at same time the powers are pushing us out ? Why strive to make the “West End” a vibrant place, but rezone all residential properties to Commercial? It’s our home and our Asset to pass on to our future generations!

If you are affected or know of someone affected by the Dust pollution in the Pilbara, please feel free to join and share our Facebook Group for further updates and information or website: https://growporthedland.com.au/

Thank you for considering making Port Hedland a real coastal and vibrant town!
