Our Jannah Merry

On Jan 2, 2023 Jannah informed me that she was feeling unwell and was going to rest all day. I left her alone all day for that reason. Later that night a friend received a very garbled message and again in the morning her landlord and good friend found her in the living room in obvious distress and had her taken by ambulance to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. I received a phone call at about 1030 that morning from the attending physician informing me that my daughter was there and was in very grave, life threatening condition. She had suffered a massive stroke and was close to death. She was at that point taken from Oakville to Trillium Heath Partners in Mississauga by ambulance and was admitted to the Neuro ICU, a unit of the facility which specializes in the care and well being of such patients. She was on life-support when taken to the OR for brain surgery. A portion of her skull was removed, a large blood clot was located which had been the cause of the problem and was taken out of her head. A tube was inserted in her head to drain away excess fluid buildup. All this while Jannah remained unconscious. I was able to visit but having to travel from Manitoba meant I was only at her bedside for 5 days while she was in the ICU. Her condition is slowly improving but she is now being subjected to many other tests including MRI's, endless bloodwork and she has now been diagnosed with endocarditis, an infection and inflammation of the heart. That condition will be confirmed later today. Jannah is gradually awakening and becoming aware of her surroundings. She has no memory of recent events and is still somewhat confused at times. She has an endless stream of visitors, friends and well-wishers daily and I call from Manitoba numerous time daily for updates. Jannah is a tough girl and she is going to need all the courage and resourcefulness she can muster. Due to the stroke the left side of her body is completely immobile with no sensation and no voluntary movement and she only speaks with difficulty. In many ways this could only be the start of what is to follow. There will be endless rounds of physiotherapy, rehabilitation, speech therapy, learning to walk again and much more. She could be institutionalized for many months while undergoing recovery. I will add more information as it becomes available. Thank you everyone for caring.
