Our hearts are with Paula

A Midsummer Update on our beloved Paula

Thank you to all of you who gave generously to help us help our beloved Paula, after her YouCaring account was set up for her last March. We set a goal of $24,000 and got to about $9,446. The support given was a great help to her and reduced her stress immensely, which greatly increased her quality of life. So...Thank-you!

But now those funds have been depleted, and we are again faced with asking for your help.

Unfortunately Paula’s health continues to deteriorate. We had a scare in April, when she was hospitalized with Sepsis. Thankfully the doctors were able to treat her successfully, cleaning the stent that was put in last year, and she returned home after about a week. However, she now is suffering from chronic pain and fatigue from the tumor, and the recurrent thrush makes eating/tasting food challenging. She has been placed on Hospice palliative care. They are trying to manage her pain and get the thrush and nausea under control, which has been challenging, causing her to lose a lot of weight.

Watching Paula’s decline has been one of the hardest things. Cancer is an evil, dirty trick. One day you have hope, the next, you think the end is coming soon.

It’s been a rollercoaster for all of us but mainly for Paula.

Her limited time and energy are now spent being with those she loves and enjoying the simple things as much as possible, while she still can.

In light of these facts, we are now asking again for those who know and love Paula, or who know the difficulty of living with advanced cancer, to help us support her through this phase of her life. Facing one’s mortality is one of life’s most inevitable and yet most difficult challenges, and now, unfortunately, Paula is having to face this reality everyday.

Anything we can do to make her journey a little less fearful and stressful, would mean so very much to her.
