Our heart hurts for Brian

Hello everyone, family and friends. As many of you may know Brian was diagnosed with Kyphosis scoliosis in July of 2019. We were told that if we left it untreated he would become paralyzed. After Two years of frequent hospital visits at Cooks Children in Fort Worth, he finally got his surgery this past Thursday, September 24th.

Brian is 16 years old, and unfortunately this was inevitable because he was born with an abnormal bone in his spine that has gotten progressively worse throughout the years. He is a loveable, caring, and by far one of the most respectful person you will ever meet. Even while in excruciating pain he is what nurses say “incredibly behaved and respectful”.

We are absolutely devastated to share that there were complications after his first surgery that included low blood pressure, the possibility of a collapsed lung and lack of oxygen to the brain. 3 days into recovery and through a lot of heart ache, they discovered something abnormal on his lower back. And they figured out that the screws they had put into his spine had come out and was causing him more pain then what’s expected. Yesterday, on September 29th, they performed his second 12 hour surgery to fix any wrongdoing from the previous surgery. 

As of today we don’t quite know the grand total of the hospital expenses with both surgeries at hand. But the reality is scoliosis surgery on average, ranges from $140,000 to $175,000 alone. The reason I am creating this page is to help support my parents through the first few payments. My mother has been with him during this process and hasn’t left the hospital since he arrived. Brian is loved and taken care of by his close family and his parents.
