Our friend Duška

Hi, my name is Debbie Bibo and I’m fundraising for my dear friend and colleague, Duška Karanov. In September 2020 Duska was diagnosed with cancer: an inoperable malignant tumor situated between her heart and her lungs. She started chemotherapy and radiation therapy soon after and was able to work on and off for a while, but due to terrible side effects she hasn’t been able to work.

For those of you who don’t know Duška she’s a force of nature. She’s mom to Dunja and Margherita, grandma to Sever and Istok, and friend to many. Duška is an immensely talented artist—a painter, a photographer, an art director, a graphic designer—and earns her living working freelance. Given her condition, she hasn’t been able to work for months and won’t be able to in the near future. She will have to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the next year and doesn’t have the financial means to go another year without working. For those of you who are acquainted with Duska or are lucky enough to be friends with her, you know how much her art and work mean to her. She’s not only been deprived of her health, but she can’t do what she loves the most: create.

I’ve started this fundraising campaign to help Duška and her family cope with the costs of everyday living as she courageously battles cancer. I’m reaching out to friends, colleagues, and acquaintances to ask for your help. I’d be grateful to anyone who can make a donation to help Duška in this difficult and challenging moment. No amount is too small.

Ciao, mi chiamo Debbie Bibo e sto raccogliendo fondi per aiutare la mia cara amica e collega Duška Karanov. Nel settembre del 2020 a Duška è stato diagnosticato un tumore maligno e inoperabile tra il cuore e i polmoni. Ha fatto subito chemioterapia e radioterapia, e per un certo periodo è riuscita ancora a lavorare, almeno a intervalli. Ma dovuto agli effetti collaterali tremendi non è più stata in grado.

Duška, se non la conoscete, è una forza della natura. Ha due figlie, Dunja e Margherita, due nipoti, Sever e Istok, e tanti amici. Duška è artista di enorme talento: pittrice, fotografa, art director, graphic designer. Lavora come freelance. Ma date le sue condizioni non lavora da mesi, e di sicuro non potrà lavorare neanche nel prossimo futuro. Per un altro anno dovrà sottoporsi a chemio e radioterapia, e non ha i mezzi economici per permettersi un altro anno senza lavoro. Se conoscete Duška o se avete la fortuna di essere suoi amici, sapete quanto significano per lei la sua produzione artistica e il suo lavoro. Non solo le è stata tolta la salute, ma non è nemmeno in grado di fare la cosa che ama di più: creare.

Ho iniziato questa campagna di fundraising per aiutare Duška e la sua famiglia ad affrontare i costi della vita quotidiana durante la sua coraggiosa battaglia contro il cancro. Mi rivolgo a voi - amici, colleghi, conoscenti - per chiedere il vostro aiuto. Sarò grata a chiunque voglia fare una donazione per Duška, in questo momento difficilissimo. Ogni offerta è importante, anche la più piccola.
