Mark Carr’s Path to Recovery

Our father, Mark Carr, is the most hard working, strong, and inspirational person we know. He is the best father figure us three girls could ask for. He is a loving husband with a kind hearted personality. He has worked every single day for forty years to be able to provide for us. Unfortunately, for the past five years, he has been too ill to work. He has COPD and emphysema and has those diseases currently with pneumonia and the flu, which has affected his overall health immensely. Not only does he have complications with his lungs, but with his heart and kidneys also. On New Year’s Eve, his body decided that its had enough. It has been a very difficult time for us and for him because he is now on life support. He has been sedated and unresponsive for 14 days. Three days ago, he had a tracheotomy and two days ago he was transferred to a long term hospital in Palm Beach, Fl. Yesterday was the first day that he opened his eyes, so we know there is hope as he makes his recovery. The hospital he is located at is four hours from us girls and one hour from our mother. Our mother is the one taking care of him and she is our only source of income. She has taken the Family Medical Leave Act for sixty days from work with no pay, but still has to pay health insurance out of pocket. Our fundraising goal will go towards our father’s medical bills, physical therapy, speech therapy, insurance costs, lost wages and our mother’s transportation back and forth from our home to the hospital.
