Our brave little soldier, Yago.

Hi, my name is Katrina and I am setting up this gofundme page to help my childhood friend, Ross Rica. Her family is going through a terrible crisis trying to save the life of their 7 yo son, Yago, who has been bravely battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for almost 5 yrs now. They are based in Davao City, Philippines.

May you find it in your kind hearts to read their story below and consider sharing whatever amount you are able to give, as they have already exhausted all of their resources. Your prayers will most especially be appreciated and desperately needed.

From Yago's Mom (Ross Rica C.)

It all started in 2018 when he began attending preschool. He had a fever every day, which eventually developed into pneumonia and then pre-leukemia. We were in and out of the hospital for eight months, treating various infections, before he was fully diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on March 20, 2019, just a few months before his third birthday. He underwent chemotherapy, but we had to rush him to the ICU due to internal bleeding. It took us four days to find an apheresis blood donor, which was very difficult as it was the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we managed to survive and continued with our therapy until he experienced his first CNS relapse in 2021. He underwent intensive chemo again, but then experienced another relapse in 2022, followed by a third relapse this month.

These relapses occur because he has been on chemo for too long, making him resistant to the medications or his body immune to them.

For almost five years, we sought the best care available at Davao Doctors Hospital. However, Yago's pediatric hematologist, who coordinated with the head of hematology at St. Luke's, very recently informed us that the prognosis for Yago is very poor. They suggested that we go to Singapore to explore alternative treatment options for our son. The last resort here is cobalt/radiation, which is the next step after six weeks of intensive chemotherapy sessions.

The doctors have informed us that Yago has already completed 75% of the American protocol treatment, and his survival rate is only at 60%.

Yago is our only son, the youngest in the family. He is a very sweet little brother to his two sisters.

I had prayed for a boy from the Lord, and He gave me Yago (Spanish for Jacob), our little sunshine. I pray that with your help and prayers, God will allow us to have more time with Yago so we can watch him grow into a great man.
Sincerely, Yago's Mom
