Our angel baby, Amara June

Donation protected
Our baby daughter Amara June Hallam died on June 23, 2017. She was born two days later, at 41 weeks gestation, on June 25 and would have been one month old today.

Did you know that 6 babies are stillborn in Australia every day? That's 180 babies since Amara's birth. Or that 1 on every 135 births will be a stillbirth? What about that for every infant who dies from SIDS, 35 die in their mothers womb? These statistics are phenomenal, and yet funding for research, support and awareness is minimal.

Our names are Bethany and Nathan Hallam, we met 6.5 years ago, and married 3 years ago. Amara was our first child, and forever will be our first child. We had no precursors to her death and have little by way of answers. One night she was alive and kicking, the next morning I heard the most deafening silence where her heartbeat should have been, and watched a still image where her heart should have been pumping. One day earlier she could have been safely in our arms, and we would never have known the most life-altering pain any person can feel.

We are not here to raise money for ourselves, but to raise awareness, support other loss parents, and give back. We have received enormous support from our family, friends and community, but also from charities who work with loss parents and the parents themselves. Without them we would not have made it so far, and they will continue to be a great and necessary support in the years to come as we continue to grieve a lifetime with them for the lifetimes our babies lost.

Our aim is to raise money to donate Bears of Hope support packages to the Horsham and Ballarat Base hospitals, who took great care of us when Amara died. These packages include information, support, a frame and candle, and most importantly a bear, to fill the empty arms of these new parents who must leave the hospital without their much wanted baby. Each bear will be tagged in honour of Amara, to let other parents know they are not alone in their sorrow.

Every $55 buys one support package complete with bear tagged in Amara's honour. We hope to donate at least 12 bears, while other funds will be donated directly to StillAware, raising awareness for stillbirth and encouraging pregnant women to connect with their babies in the womb, and give them a voice. This is incredibly important to me, as being more aware and less afraid to voice concerns may have saved my precious daughter. It is something I will never know, but if it saves just one other baby it will be worth every cent.

Being there for other loss parents and spreading awareness is one small way we can attempt to make sense of our daughters senseless death.

Much love,
Bethany, Nathan and Amara XxX
