Otto Family Home
Donation protected
On September 21, 2018, The Otto Family was stunned to learn that their home, which was built just four years ago, was suddenly being deemed uninhabitable due to toxic mold. As a result, they were uprooted and had to move in with Cara’s parents while the devastating news of their home continued to unfold. The hardest part was facing their three children to let them know not only would they not be returning to their home but that all of their favorite toys, lovies, clothes and blankets had to be left behind.
As a result of the mold, the majority of their personal belongings are a loss. Any items they are able to keep will need extensive cleaning and the home itself will also require extensive remediation, repairs and cleaning to ensure it is safe for the family to return home. At this point, they know they will lose all beds, bedding, couches, linens, the majority of their clothing and kids toys along with all carpeting. Unfortunately, this is not covered by the Otto’s homeowners insurance.
The immediate costs are quickly adding up as they had to replace all the basics for their family of 5. The estimated costs to return their home to its original state is also adding up quickly and will continue to rise with the mold remediation estimate starting at $47,000. It will also be over $7,000 alone just to get their clothing cleaned. These are just starting figures and as costs are incurred the specific amounts will be updated to share with our GoFundMe Supporters.
At this time financial donations would be a grateful aid to the family as they incur the expenses of repairing their home and replacing personal belongings.
