Becky's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
Please join us in supporting a wonderful person, Rebecca "Becky" Christensen as she begins on her journey to recovery. For those of you who may not know Becky, she is a devoted Christian, loving daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, niece and friend and also offers up her time as a Girl Scout leader. She is an Assistant Manager and prominent fixture at Dairy Queen in Columbus, NE. Throughout the past several weeks, she has proven to be a very strong and courageous person and throughout it all has allowed her faith to carry her through.
A few weeks ago, Becky's family noticed some drastic changes in mood and behavior with Becky going from being energetic and fun-loving to wanting to spend the majority of the day in bed and refusing to eat. A fainting spell due to low blood sugar landed Becky in the hospital in Columbus, NE where labs were drawn and a chest x-ray and CT scan of the abdomen were performed, however, all came back negative. Becky was ultimately discharged the next day with instructions to follow up with her PCP despite concerns over poor nutrition intake.
Over the next week, family watched and struggled to encourage Becky to complete regular daily tasks until she met with her PCP. Her doctor started her on an anti-depressant medication, which given the symptoms, appeared to make some sense yet more answers were sought. Eventually a CT scan of the head showed a large mass on her frontal lobe and while we had some answers, we also had so many more questions.
Becky was then taken to Lincoln, NE where a neurosurgeon explained that this mass was ~5cm and had started to lose blood supply which was likely causing the significant swelling and also the reason for the drastic change. The doctor felt that the mass was likely benign but due to the size, the treatment options included steroids to reduce the swelling with surgery to follow on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Later scans revealed that the mass was more like the size of a softball and while the goal is to get the majority of it with surgery, she may require radiation therapy.
While prayers are most welcome for a smooth recovery, we know that this may be a long journey before the Becky we all know and love is 100% again. At this time we are asking for any support to alleviate the financial stressors that come along with such a process to help with medical bills, as well as monthly bills while Becky is unable to work. Thank you in advance for your love, ongoing prayers and support!
