Hello! We are 12 University of California - Berkeley and Los Angeles* students wishing to help out a community outside of our national boundaries.
Children of the Andes is an affordable summer abroad volunteering program settled in Peru. Fourteen UCLA and UCB students will travel to a town named San Pedro de Cajas located high up in the Andean Mountains. There, we will help tutor the students of San Martin de Porras Elementary School on the subjects of Math, English, Science and Spanish. We will also promote higher education among the local schools and hold tutoring hours for all to come. The town of San Pedro de Cajas is extremely poor and its citizens occupy themselves mainly with agriculture and farming. We wish to promote the value of higher education among the families so we can help the small town become self sustainable one step at a time.
We plan to raise funds in order to allocate for travel fees and school materials that we will use in the tutoring hours we will hold. We will fundraise and apply for grants, but we appreciate any outside help anyone is willing to provide. Let's make a difference in a child's life.
