This GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for billboards, tshirts, signs, etc. to increase awareness about the OSU students in the University District who are being victimized almost daily, and President Johnson’s complete lack of leadership in doing everything within her and the Board of Trustees power to protect them.

 

Since the murder of OSU student Chase Meola on Oct 11, 2020, OSU and its Safety Task Force has failed to implement an effective action plan successful at improving safety for the students in the off campus area. The implementation of their recommendations has been nothing but temporary solutions full of smoke and mirrors and placating answers in response to the outrage and terror felt by the community. Since the safety task force recommendations were created, armed robberies, armed carjackings, sexual assaults, and home invasions against students has only increased at an alarming rate. Their failure to act effectively and urgently is endangering the lives of tens of thousands of students.

 

The Facebook group, Buckeyes for a Safe Ohio State, was formed in response to Chase’s murder in order to join forces, share information, and hold OSU accountable for better protecting their students. After months of hearing the same regurgitated statements by President Johnson on what safety measures are being implemented, thousands of parents, students, and the rest of the OSU community have lost faith that she and the Board of Trustees are doing everything within their power and influence to call on Mayor Ginther, Governor Dewine, and CPD Chief Bryant to bring in the necessary state law enforcement and resources to better protect this vulnerable community.

 

Where’s the urgency? Where’s the outrage? President Johnson and the Board of Trustees are failing their students miserably. Big changes need to happen immediately. It’s only a matter of time before they have the blood of another murdered student on their hands.
