Ostomy Mermums Channel Swim 2023

In 2023 I am swimming the English Channel solo, with Kayleigh Adams on my crew as support, as team Ostomy Mermums.

We are both mothers who have permanent colostomies as a result of very serious, rare injuries sustained through childbirth.

We want to raise awareness of the 30,000 women who experience traumatic births every single year, with numbers rising during the Covid pandemic of 2020/21.

We also want to raise awareness of people with hidden disabilities, such as stomas, and to give fellow ostomates hope of an active life.

We are raising money for three charities:

Birth Trauma Association - https://www.birthtraumaassociation.org.uk/

Colostomy UK - https://www.colostomyuk.org/

Jacobs Well Appeal - they send medical supplies, such as ostomy bags, to children in impoverished countries, where otherwise they would be using plastic bags for stoma bags. (https://jacobswellappeal.org/)
