Oscie's in a pickle & needs medical intervention

We desperately need your help please lovely human beings as my darling Oscie’s life is in the balance.

My sweet little girl started to not be quite herself the middle of last week, I gave it a day to monitor her but as she appeared to decline, I took her to the vet on Thursday and the one blood test that was available to me on our plan, showed that there was something wrong with her liver.

Unfortunately, the list of what would be required to make her more comfortable and to get more vital information - IV fluids, scans, tests etc. - was going to cost thousands. The scan alone was to be £2,500 & a hospital stay with a feeding tube around £4,000 with tests close to £200 each time

You can imagine the guilt I felt when all I was able to agree to was an anti-sickness injection and to see how she would manage over the weekend.

I felt helpless, but determined and spent the next three days trying to get at least some fluids in her by using a syringe around the clock but this wouldn’t even touch the sides of what a poorly, dehydrated cat would need.

I was desperate and reached out to a dear old friend not for money, but advice however, being the beautiful soul she is, she sent me some money so I could at least get Oscie hydrated and started on some meds and this, although the delay has made things significantly worse, has given me back some hope.

We are however now on a roller-coaster journey as without the scans and possible feeding tube, blood tests to monitor her reactions etc. the meds she is on could cause a blockage from the bile duct to the liver (i’m a bit confused on the details) but, without more information her life really is in the balance.

It is very unlike me to ask for help and I have only ever donated to these sites before but if any one can spare anything to help us out, be assured, that I will somehow pay it forward in some way.

If you have no money to spare, I completely understand but perhaps you would be kind enough to help spread this message as I don’t own a smart phone and i’m not on social media and these appear to be the basics for a successful campaign.

FULLER STORY - If you have time, please do read on to know more of our situation…

Hi, I’m Laura, I’m neurodivergent and since the loss of my dear mother just over a year ago, I have been navigating my way through one struggle after another - financially, emotionally and practically.

It’s just me, my cats and all our various garden friends. They are my world and many will think that sad but many, like me, will just get it and will relate.

Day to day I am juggling the pennies and so when one of my monkey’s become poorly I go into a panic and since the sudden closure of the RSPCA Putney Hospital back in 2020, myself as well as countless others have been left without help in our catchment area.

Over the years our circumstances have continued to change and the cost of living crisis has only impacted things further.

We initially adopted two kitties and then the universe had other ideas, we are always being sent some little soul in need of TLC, be it foxes, pigeons, escaped pets etc. and especially when there are so many un-neutered/spayed furries around.

Oscie’s fur mama, Twizzle, came through our cat flap in the depths of winter in 2012 apparently having fended for herself for quite some time.

She was skinny, had a tape worm, frost bitten nose and six wee ones in her belly - we only knew the number as one after another popped out of our sweet, tiny, tortoiseshell kitty.

We went swiftly on from two adopted tabby brothers, Jumble & Bootsie (who had been left at a boot fair in 2011), to Twizzle, making it three and then the six monkeys arrived.

Now nine, I know, sounds incredibly irresponsible and I would never have planned for more than two but, life happens and I was looking after my father with dementia and my mother, who was physically very poorly and having broached the idea of parting with the kittens I knew, after some pathetic efforts to do so, that I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself as we had been chosen.

They have all lived happily together all these years, but sadly, perhaps due to their difficult starts, we have lost three of our family members, Bootsie, Twizzle and Pipistrelle and so, the dynamics change and they are older but, Jumble, Ollie, Zebedee, Smudge, Oscie and Kizzy remain a close unit - they are my family.

It is a constant worry as they are all close in age and if I can get our darling Oscie through this difficult time and were we lucky enough to receive the kindness of strangers and were there any money remaining, it would give me the peace of mind that, when the inevitable arrives, they won’t suffer due to lack of funds. I have watched three suffer more than they needed to already and that never leaves me.

I looked into insurance for them all but, due to their ages, it just wasn’t the best option and so chose instead to pay for a care plan that covers them for two check-ups a year, their vaccinations, flea & worm treatments and I pay a supplement to cover one blood test yearly.

This is all well and good until things can go down hill sooo very quickly and to have an established fund to dip into would make a huge difference to the quality of their lives and ends and as I have learnt this week, any delay in treatment is to be avoided wherever possible.

Many thanks for your kind consideration and for any help you may manage to offer however small as it all adds up to making Oscie’s recovery possible.

Kindest regards, Laura & kitties xxxxxxxxxxxx
