What is Oscar de la Tienda and why your help is important:
Oscar de la Tienda is a minority/veteran owned new small business that serves a remarkably diverse demographic and we make it our aim to showcase and promote as many other local small businesses as possible. Dozens of micro businesses and local artists without brick and mortar shops of their own find shelf space and customers for their wares here.
Beyond being a place to pick up snacks and drinks, Oscar de la Tienda serves as a social hub where all are welcome and treated as honored guests. We support the local arts and culture scene by providing a free space next door for people’s artistic endeavors and meet ups. Neighbors meet neighbors, people form friendships and find comfort and community here.
Shortly after we opened, construction began on the streets leading to our spot. For the last several months, we’ve been closed off from through traffic from all directions so even some of our most loyal patrons have been unable to reach us.
With limited access to our location, bringing in enough revenue to survive has become an insurmountable challenge.
We have been hanging on by a thread, operating at 25% of what average revenues should be and are currently unable to keep up with operating expenses and needed repairs. Our utility and tax bills have been racking up and we need help keeping the lights on, the water running and frankly, avoiding foreclosure. Although the revenue losses killing our business are due to a capital improvements project, the city hasn’t responded with a definitive plan or timeline for assistance. The payment plans that have been offered just aren’t realistic under these circumstances and our ability to remain afloat is diminishing by the day.
A quick google search will attest to the positive impact we've made in the community which we hope to serve for years to come.
