O's Recovery Support
To all my friends and family, never did I imagine I would be writing these words to you all today. In the late afternoon on Saturday, December 23, Oramys (Gordo) Collera, my best friend Barbie’s 14 years old son was involved in a major ATV accident. The collision resulted in Oramys being airlifted to the trauma center at Kendall Regional Hospital. Oramys sustained a number of injuries and remains in an induced coma at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Once he is strong enough, he will be transferred to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood for months of extensive rehabilitation.
Oramys and his family are now faced with a very long road of intense rehabilitation. His rehab will be grueling, both emotionally and physically for the whole family. In addition to the physical and emotional toll caused by the accident, Oramys and his family will also face severe financial burdens. Barbie would never allow me to do this for her, but she has come to understand she will not be able to do this on her own. Even with insurance, medical bills can be a financial burden from doctor’s bills and co-pays to travel costs and loss of wages. No one wants to have to choose between being by your child’s bedside versus continuing to try and function in the working world. Many of you have reached out asking how you can help this wonderful young boy and his family outside of prayers. We are setting up this GoFundME account for this reason, as a way for friends and family to show their love and support for this amazing young boy and his family. No donation is too small. Together we can provide tremendous financial relief for this family so that they can focus on Oramys rehab and getting healthy and strong. Please keep Gordo and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
