Orthodox Trek Across America 2018
Through this project, we aim to bring a taste of the beauty of Orthodoxy to people who may never otherwise visit one of our churches.
With the blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop DANIEL, ruling hierarch of the Western Eparchy of the UOC of USA , the people of Saint Job of Pochaiv Orthodox Church in Los Alamos, New Mexico, will construct a mobile Orthodox chapel. The chapel will be named in honor of Our Lady of Pochaiv.
In the western United States, Orthodox parishes are sometimes few and far between. Many people, when asked, will associate the word "orthodox" with "Jewish." We as Orthodox are just not recognized. Our goal is to change this.
Funds collected through this effort will go to the purchase of a flat-bed trailer for the base of the chapel, the construction of the chapel and its decoration with hand-written iconography, and our trek across America, from Los Alamos, NM to Southbound Brook, NJ. The trek will take place in July of 2018 to coincide with the Centennial Celebration of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. If enough money is raised, we will also take the chapel to Los Angeles for their Centennial Celebration in September.
After the summer of 2018, the chapel will continue to be used as a tool for outreach in New Mexico and Colorado.
