Cindy Ortega is a dear co-worker and friend of mine. I had the honor of speaking at her wedding and have formed a unique bond that doesn't happen often in this crazy world. We talk often about work, life and the future. Her husband, Mario, is the light of her life and has brought her so much love and happiness.
It is with great sadness that I write this post, but I have been given permission by Mario to share the details of their recent tragic events.
Last Friday Cindy had to undergo emergency surgery after a blood clot ruptured. Being six months pregnant this quickly became a life or death situation and Cindy was care-flighted to another hospital for the surgery. Mario was overcome with fear for his wife and unborn child, Baby Ortega.
Although the surgeons were able to stop the internal bleeding, leaving Cindy in critical condition/ICU, they were unable to save Baby Ortega. He gained his angel wings that night as Mario continued to pray diligently for his dear wife's survival. Mario had to burden the sadness, guilt, and devastation without Cindy since she was in ICU and faced two more surgeries. She needed all the strength and hope she could muster to survive, and Mario had to be strong for her through it all.
Through God's grace Cindy has endured three surgeries and is now on the road to physical healing and recovery. Sadly, the healing process following the loss of their unborn child has only just begun as Mario and Cindy will soon be planning a funeral for Baby Ortega.
I am posting this story and sharing details as a plea for help for my dear friend Cindy and her husband Mario. They will have to face the financial struggles of extensive hospital bills, loss of wages, and funeral arrangements. With your support, they do not have to do it alone. No amount is too large or too small; anything you are able to give will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, please pray that Cindy and Mario find comfort and understanding through their faith and God's love.
