Over the Rhine: a place of history, beauty, controversy. It's been the subject of heated debate over the last five years, but all it takes is one small example to remind us that this place is one of the unique places in the world. It's been a home to newcomers to our city and our country, and it has a rich past that helps us as Cincinnatians know who we are, to tell our story to the world in the form of 19th century survivors, beautiful art, underground tunnels, delicious food, and a place for our most disenfranchised citizens to call home. In fact, it's always been a home forthose who want a place to belong to. 

The reason that all these things are true, and possible, is that so many of our historic structures still stand. Over hundreds of acres, Over the Rhine exists as the largest historic district in the United States, and as a result the feeling is distinct, close knit, and thoroughly unlike newer developments and cities. It promotes walkability, interaction, and closeness. In other words, Over the Rhine was built for people!

1706 Lang street is a building that represents an imposing piece of that urban fabric. It is the last building standing in it's section of the block, and helps define the vision of high density urban housing. It's the last part of what makes OTR, OTR.

Sadly, the owner of this building is absent and has not made efforts to maintain it over the years. The property is neglected and its windows dark. It has undergone water damage to the roof, and for some time has lost some facade bricks due to gutter leakage. This past week, it got worse. It's structurally stable enough to be completely fixed; contractors and independent restoration experts have confirmed this. Amazingly, we now have an opportunity to save this building from destruction!

The problem currently is what we in the industry call gap financing. We have several great restoration companies and non-profits interested in helping this building come back to life, but we have a large gap between what we have available financially and what we need to save this beautiful Italianate building. In addition, our company, Nazca Restoration, is commited to help stabilize the structure and repair the facade. We need your help!

Money is a terrible reason to lose such a crucial part of our neighborhood and our lives.
