Save the Orphans!

Hope for the Hopeless

Hi!  For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Samantha Lin and I am 13 years old.  I live in Northern California and have always had a tender spot in my heart for helping people.  My family has been supporting CityTeam, a Christian-based, non-profit 501C3 organization, and its plight to help the homeless in San Francisco.  Recently, I heard that one of its leaders was working on a special project helping orphans in India.  When I met with him, Jonathan Zingkhai, to find out more about this project I felt compelled to take action.  This is why I am reaching out to all of you through GoFundMe.  I hope you, just like me, will see this as an exciting opportunity to make a difference in contributing to the orphans in this village.

This inspirational journey begins with a man named, Jonathan, who grew up in a small poor village of 120 people in Manipur, India.  Through a special gift, he was given the opportunity to come to the United States for college, and he has been helping people ever since at CityTeam Rescue and Recovery centers in San Francisco and San Jose, CA.

While in the US for the past 20 years, unfortunately, AIDS/HIV has been silently spreading in India (along with Africa and Southeast Asia), including taking the life of Jonathan’s youngest brother in 2005.  During his return to India, Jonathan realized that similar to his brother, many children were being orphaned from parents dying from AIDS.  In addition, many HIV infected mothers were transmitting the HIV virus to their newborn infants through breast feeding and unsanitary medical procedures/supplies used during delivery.  In 2006, Jonathan helped create a ministry called Spring of Hope to provide better doctors and medical care to delivering mothers, and to save the orphans and nourish their souls.  It is a non-profit organization committed to serving people living with HIV/AIDS and to protecting the future generations from HIV.  Amazingly, from one man’s inspiration, Spring of Hope has thus far saved more than 200 children from HIV!

Since then, Spring of Hope has expanded to include an orphanage because there is no one to care for these kids after their parents die.  Today, more than 25 kids, ranging from 3-11 years of age, are living in this orphanage.

Now, after you’ve read the background of this organization, you may ask, "Why do we need the money?"

Spring of Hope needs $4,000 each month to operate the orphanage to feed, teach, and clothe the children.   Although many generous donors have contributed to the monthly budget, there is an ongoing need for fund raising.  During many months, there is a shortage and the orphanage is at risk of shutting down!  Therefore, to create a sustainable income source to support the orphanage, Spring of Hope wishes to build a boarding house for visiting students from other villages.  Students from other villages come to this village for education and food.  This boarding house idea has gathered momentum and the building foundation has already been built.  However, Spring of Hope still needs $15,000 to complete this building which could house 50 students.  Once completed, this house will generate $2k in monthly income for the orphanage, or half of the current monthly needs.

Do you realize what this means!  If we can raise $15,000 to complete the boarding house, the orphanage will get $24,000 of income each year.

So how can you help?

Our goal is to save the innocent children from HIV and provide for the orphanage and give them hope for a future, but I can’t do that without YOUR help.  So please click that donate button to contribute, even $5 will help.  Whether it’s giving up a frozen yogurt, a latte, or a smoothie, these kids need your help - please, you can make a difference!

It has been said, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This relates to our situation.  We could donate to the orphanage directly, and help them for a month, or we can help build this boarding house, and have it be a sustainable source of income for the orphanage! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping to save this orphanage!
