To our friends and family,

It is with great sadness that we must share with you that early morning Tuesday, December 1st our beloved Maria Luisa “Maris” my dear cousin was called home. Due to the unexpected nature of her passing, we understand that you may have questions. We hope that in providing the details of her journey over the last two years you will find comfort in clarity in any way possible.

In 2019 Maris was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Scleroderma. This causes pulmonary fibrosis and hypertension, Reynauds, hypothyroidism, GERD, skin hardening, extreme weight-loss, hair loss, and over production of collagen in the body. Despite the immense potential setbacks of her diagnosis, Maris was a warrior in true form, for herself and for her family. On Friday Maris was admitted into the hospital and then transported to urgent care Tuesday morning. During her transition between departments, she went into cardiac arrest and her heart stopped for more than 7 minutes. This required extreme measures for both revival and life support. Due to her unstable condition a CT scan could not be performed to confirm but based on observation, Doctors have concluded that the lack of oxygen to her brain had caused too much damage, preventing Maris from sustaining life on her own. She had lost 99.9% of her lung capacity with all other vitals following suit.

After a great deal of thought, discussion, and prayer the decision to remove Maris’ ventilator and allow God's will be done was made.  After one minute had passed, her heart had stopped and Maris was called home. The difficulty in making decisions such as these is beyond comprehension and we ask for grace and understanding for those who are in pain and suffering from the magnitude of our loss.

We ask that you pray for our family and for Maris as she is accepted into Heaven. When you think of her, we hope that you envision a beautiful angel sitting down reading a Paulo Coehlo book or belting the chorus to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." These are the moments that will bring joy to the hearts of her husband Jiggs, two beautiful children Gab and Gerard, her brother Jeff, and her parents Evelyn and Louie. They will remember her smile, her laugh, and her protective nature of all things dear to her heart. Most notably, however, we will all remember her strength that stemmed from her love for family; a love so strong that even in the toughest times it prevented Maris from showing any signs of distress. Her faith in God, in her family, and in herself never wavered.

With her sudden passing, the family has taken on a significant financial burden in both medical and funeral expenses. The Oroceo family is also burdened with the task maintaining as stable of an environment as possible for Gab and Gerard despite the loss of household income. On behalf of Maris’ husband Jigs, we are asking our friends and family to help this beautiful family endure in the form of financial assistance to cover expenses and provide support for her two children. If you are able to do so, we greatly appreciate and value your donation.

God, our father, please accept Maria Luisa Oroceo into heaven with your unconditional and immeasurable love, free from any pain.
