Orcutt Robotics - World Competition

Donation protected
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition has been called “The varsity sport for the mind.” Under strict rules, limited resources, and time constraints, teams of high school students are challenged to raise funds, design a team brand (Spartatroniks), hone teamwork skills, and build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. The Orcutt Academy High School robotics team, FIRST 3512 Spartatroniks, currently has 38 students with many valuable mentors who have worked hard to get us where we are today. Guided by mentors and fully embracing the principles of FIRST, students are responsible for all the work from the mechanics to business side – putting in 30+ hours per week on top of their academic studies and other responsibilities. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get, including both the business and design sides of engineering! We just attended one of our regional competitions in Ventura and were ranked first place throughout the competition. In the finals we placed 2nd and as a result we have been granted the amazing opportunity to go to the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston, TX. Our team realizes that for many of our students this could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we would like to take as many members as we can, hopefully all of them. However, our team has had a difficult year financially and would need to raise upwards of $30,000 to accomplish this. This $30,000+ includes the cost of our competition registration fees, plane tickets for 45 people, and a local hotel. For now we will be setting the goal at $15,000 because our students will be working tirelessly over the next few weeks to organize and advertise local fundraisers like a chili feed and silent auction. We need your support as soon as possible because we will be leaving on April 19th for the competition, and we need to make travel arrangements and purchase our plane tickets right away. We would be so grateful for any help that you can give us!
Thank you,
FIRST 3512 Spartatroniks
