Orangutan COVID 19 Relief Fund

My name is Abdullah Togap and I am one of the leaders of the Bukit Lawang village in Sumatra.
Our village is 100% focused on protecting the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan through ecotourism. Due to COVID19 the village is no longer allowing the visit of tourists as we don’t want to find out if Orangutans are susceptible to this disease, which is likely as they can catch the common cold and flu. Also, most countries have locked their borders, so we don’t expect any tourists to come for some time. Due to all of this we have 2000 people living in Bukit Lawang who now don’t have an income, and these people who have been protecting this beautiful ape are in serious poverty. As this is a global issue, there are no other jobs in the local area or even in this country.
We are concerned that as the situation gets more desperate the danger of poaching will increase. Please can you help us support our village until we are out of this crisis. Our village people are very frugal and can survive on as little as 5 dollars a day. Please help us to raise this money and we will trickle into the community during this crisis to help the most affected villagers.
