Endangered Species Conservation

Hi Everyone!
I am currently raising money for an organization called Wildlife ACT (http://wildlifeact.com). This organization works with various reserves in South Africa that are dedicated to the protection and conservation of animals. Organisations such as Wildlife ACT are the unsung heros of the African conservation effort, and rely solely on volunteers and donations in order to continue their incredible work. They are the only conservation volunteer organization in South Africa who are supported by organizations such as the Endangered Wildlife Trust, WWF, and the Wildlands Conservation Trust.
In an effort to save endangered animals (such as Rhino, Cheetah, and African Wild Dog) from being illegally and barbarically hunted and slaughtered by poachers, I will be assisting rangers in tracking and monitoring animals, setting up camera traps, participating in poaching prevention techniques, providing support and assistance to veternarians, and be involved in game capture and relocation. Because the reserve borders local rural communities, trespassing poachers are a constant threat and this work is imperative to the safety and survival of these animals.
Your donations will be going to the conservation program, as they do not currently receive government funding. Your donations will be contributing to the following aspects of Wildlife ACT, but not limited to:
- Deliver time and expertise to provide adequate management, capture, transport and reintroduction of endangered animals.
- Implementation of anti-poaching measures and equipment in the field
- Finding the equipment needed to effectively monitor endangered and threatened species
- Helping rural communities who live alongside protected wildlife areas to develop a love and respect for nature, provide them with reasons to protect it, and advance economic empowerment.
Your money goes a long way!
- One VHF collar can save an animals’ life and it costs only $500. There are many Wild Dog, Cheetah, Lion and Leopard that need collars.
- Remote camera traps allow conservation managers to estimate the status of their endangered species and costs only $600, and last over 5 years.
- Hosting a child on Kid’s Bush camp is $10 a day. So every little bit helps!
I am going to contribute all I can to help these endangered species that are threatened by civil war and unrest, human conflict, and poachers. By helping these guardians of conservation, together, we can ensure that these species can remain happy and healthy in their native environment. It will be a very sad day indeed when the only place you can see a rhino is in a zoo.
The program runs from June 8-22.
I am not in anyway asking for this money for myself. Every cent raised will go towards helping Wildlife ACT. So please, if you love wildlife as much as I do and wish for it to remain just that, wild, then please donate. Every little bit helps even if it’s only a dollar or two.
