A short verson of Shelly's story is the first paragraph and the second paragraph goes into more detail about this ugly road Shelly has been on. Thank you for considering helping her. Shelly is a 41 year old and she has Metastasis cancer in her lungs from a osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Shelly underwent a left leg amputation after her femur broke at the site of the tumor, in hopes of prolonging her time with her family. She has had a very tuff road since her diagnosis in 2013 that led to many hospitalizations time after time. Shelly could really use some financial assistance to help with her medical and travel needs monthly. Shelly has continued to fight this not allowing it to interfere with her daily routine when possible. She continues to work (mostly from home due to her decreased immune system from the chemo). Let's help her focus on living!!
Shelly was diagnosed late April of 2013. It all started with an ache in her leg. After her first visit with a doctor, she was told she is just over weight and probably pulled a muscle. After another month she went in to see her regular physician and he took an x-ray. Something did not look right, so then she had an MRI and they found a very large tumor in her thigh. Shelly was sent out to Seattle to an osteosarcoma specialist at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, where she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. After coming up with a treatment plan, Shelly was to return to Seattle in April to have a port put in, to receive her chemo. While in Seattle she sat down on the bed to put her PJ's on and her femur snapped in half. She was sent to the ER and her leg was stabilized. After much discussion on a new strategy and worry whether the cells could start to travel into her blood stream, Shelly was sent home again. In June 2013 Shelly fell very sick and was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolisms. She was treated and sent back to Seattle in October to have her left leg amputation. By January 2014 her cancer had metastasized to her lungs and Shelly was considered terminal. They gave Shelly 3 months to 1 1/2 years to live. In February Shelly has a lung resection to take out 3 of the tumors. In May she was able to get a prosthetic to help her walk again without being in a wheelchair or using crutches. Shelly has had many ups and downs and is still fighting. She is not yet walking on her proshtetic leg, but has not given up. Recently Shelly fell and landed on her stump leg and broke her femur. She is seeing her doctor today for a follow up and see if it is healing and see if she is able to continue her treatment now or not. She is currently getting chemo every 21 days and is seeing a cancer specialist in Houston Texas at MD Anderson. If you consider her frequent travels, hotel cost, taxi, food, tipping the helpers at the airport, car rentals, etc. this is alot of money. This does not include any of her medical bills or her prosthesis. She does have insurance, but this does not cover everything. We ask that you can give in any amount and that you share this with all your friends and family. Even if you only have a $1, this could be part of a tip, so every dollar counts. We cannot express the gratitude we will have in making this easier for Shelly. The burden of the cancer is enough; we do not want her to worry about her finances. Thank you for reading her story!
