Oppourtunity for Higher Education

Bula and Aloha

First of all, I want to thank you for clicking on my Go Fund me page link and for taking out some of your valuable time to hear my request. I’m indeed grateful for that.

My name is Joseph Ruben II, and I’m from the beautiful islands of Fiji. I came to Hawaii in the year 2015 to attend Brigham Young University Hawaii (BYUH) and work at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). I was blessed to be given the IWORK Scholarship which enabled me to attend a US based University. This scholarship allowed me to work and school at the same time.

I graduated from BYUH on JUNE, 2019, which was just last year. I graduated with double majors in Information Technology and Information Systems, double minors in Digital Systems and Digital Technology along with Certifications in Security Pro and Digital Business.

For a long time, I have been trying to get into graduate school, and after three years, I finally did. I got accepted to University of Utah under their Masters of Information Systems program specializing in IT Security.

I honestly was shocked when I heard the news. I didn’t think I was going to get accepted with all the CoVid issues, but I did. And I’m grateful for my father in heaven that I did, but the journey was not yet finished.

Being an international student, I need what is called an I-20 from the school, which gives me a legal status to work and attend school at the same time. I am required by law to provide a sum of money, showing the government and the university that I could sustain myself for one academic year.

I was lucky enough that I got a $21000 scholarship from the university, which is half of what I needed to show. But unless I could provide the total sum of what’s leftover, the university wouldn’t be able to offer me the I-20.

After talking with the admissions department, there three ways to get that money that I needed for the I-20 document.

First, is my bank account and savings. I have most of my money in my savings account, but after talking to the company that handles my savings, they mentioned that all the funds won’t be transferred 30 days after my termination date, which means that I won’t get my savings till August 2020(Termination date from PCC: July 5th 2020) which is too late since school starts Fall semester which is August 24. As of now, I’m am selling everything I own and possess. From my Car right down to my Laptop, and if needed, I will sell my phone.

Second, is through a sponsor. There could be multiple sponsors as long as the required amount is covered. The sponsor is required to sign a document saying that they would cover the student.

The third way is to take a student/private loan. This was the step I was planning on taking, but according to the law, I need a cosigner that is an American citizen to sign the student loan. They would not grant student Loans to international Applicants and or students.

Getting accepted to the University of Utah was probably the best news I’ve heard, but This news came so quick and fast that I don’t t have time to provide all the funds needed.

I have started to sell everything I possess just to come close to $28,155 which is what I need. Currently, with the sold items (there are still more to be sold) I still would need $26000.

This is why I’m reaching out to you, my friends, and my family from all over the world to help me grasp this opportunity. To help me get hold of this moment and chance to change my future.

If you know me, you know that I work hard for everything that I have ever achieved and needed in life. I never have tucked away from work or gave up on my goals and never will.

I even though I need close to $26000, I have set the fundraising amount to $5000. If you feel like donating others way such as Venmo or Fb pay than please feel free. The Go fund me page requires 2.9% Transaction fee plus $0.30 per donation. However, this go fund me page was made so that, with your help, I could collect as many funds I need to work towards getting that I-20 document. Each cent that will be donated will be directed to that goal of getting my legal documents from the university so that I could continue with my graduate school. I would forever be grateful for your assistance

As mentioned, I will be very grateful if you donated, but please, please, please, don’t feel bad if you can’t donate. I know I understand that everyone’s situation is different and unique and I appreciate, respect and honor that. So, do not worry.

Apart from donating, if you feel like you could help me with other options such as Sponsorship, private loans or any other method, I would be more than grateful. I would work to repay the private loans if that was the possible option.

If you want to reach out to me, to understand better or to ask questions, please feel free to do so. My contact information will be listed below.

Once again, Thank you, Mahalo, and Vinaka Vakalevu.
