Society for Opioid Free Anesthesia

The tragic opioid epidemic affecting the country won't be solved with a single solution. The Society for Opioid Free Anesthesia (SOFA) is doing its part by working to standardize the use of and broaden the research of opioid free anesthesia and alternative pain management techniques. Our goal is to minimize or eliminate the use of opioids when possible. Too often, individuals who are administered and prescribed opioids end up hooked.

We want to eliminate stories such as that of Max Baker (read here ). Max became addicted to pain pills as a teen, but was able to kick the habit. Following surgery on injuries sustained during a car accident, Max tragically relapsed after being treated with an opioid-based anesthesia mix. He tragically died from a heroin overdose less than a month later. Had his doctor had access to or better understood opioid free techniques, his life may have been saved.

SOFA is currently looking to raise funds to continue fulfilling our mission.

Who is SOFA?

What is Opioid Free Anesthesia?
