Ophelia Joy was born September 14th to Mikayla and Nolan Border. As their first born, they were elated to celebrate the arrival of little miss Ophelia. Within a week of her birth, Mikayla was hospitalized for 3 days due to postpartum preeclampsia from her delivery.
If that wasn't difficult enough, Little Ophelia's two week check up led to her being diagnosed with Intestinal Malrotation, a birth defect that occurs 10 weeks in utero. Once it is diagnosed, surgery is needed immediately to prevent serious obstructions from happening. Her first surgery was meant for that reason and it was deemed successful. However, after they were discharged, Mikayla and Nolan had to take her back the next morning and thank goodness they did. Ophelia ended up having two more unexpected surgeries due to complications from the first. She ended up being in the 1% and even the surgeons had never dealt with it before.
At this point the path forward is uncertain but one thing we do know is Ophelia Joy is a fighter. The apple certainly did not fall far from the tree as both Mikayla and Nolan have incredible strength. However, nothing can truly prepare you for this. To watch your first born child go through surgery after surgery, many of which were unplanned emergencies, can take its toll on your spirit.
Not to mention the financial toll this will take on their family. That is why we are asking for your support. Our prayer is for Mikayla and Nolan to be able to focus on providing Ophelia with the best care possible as both she and their family heal from this difficult set of circumstances. If we can help them through this by giving them one less thing to worry about, then that is what we plan to do.
