Operation Saddle Up

The amount we are asking to be donated will provide 3 wounded service members with four weeks of therapeutic riding lessons each.

About Operation Saddle Up

Operation Saddle Up is the first program in San Diego to offer services to combat injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who have lost limbs, traumatic/concussive brain injuries from bomb blasts, severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other war related injuries and illnesses. These brave
men and women, many of whom are still active duty, are healing through Operation Saddle Up as part of their recovery process at San Diego Naval Medical Center Balboa.

San Diego is home to over 30,000 wounded service members -- the largest population in the United States. This sheer volume of wounded service members speaks to the tremendous need for programs that facilitate physical and emotional healing in an environment that is truly conducive to the recovery process.

Traditional clinical rehabilitation environments can be stressful, painful and, quite honestly, boring. With Operation Saddle Up, individuals have access to wide open spaces and physical activity that is challenging, exciting, and fun. It’s an opportunity to become involved in a sport that offers independence, personal success, a sense of accomplishment and freedom.

Cornerstone has developed strategic partnerships with the Armed Services YMCA and San Diego Naval Medical Center Balboa and is the only program authorized by the Naval Medical Center to provide equine-assisted therapies to their patients. To date, we have served over 450 wounded service members.
