Operation Help Mom Stay Independent!

Donation protected
This is an urgent plea for your help, my mother Annie Jewel Sanford, is 92 years old, healthy and of sound mine, she is fighting to stay in her home and live independently.
Mom’s home is a pier and beam structure, built in the early 1900’s, it is still in relative good condition, but the foundation is deteriorating and if not repaired soon, it will cause structure damage that will be beyond our control and cannot be repaired. Her home also needs insulation and air conditioning. Last summer someone broke into her home while she was away and stole her 2 large air conditioning units. This makes it almost impossible to live in her home during the summer. On peak summer days she is shuttled between my house and my sister home. This arrangement is undesired and unacceptable to my mom, but this is her only option until we can get her home repaired, insulated and air conditioned.
Insulating will help keep her utility bills affordable, she is currently living off her Social Security check of $916.00 and a $20 pension from my father who passed away in 1995. Since then mom has been on her own.
Of moms 10 kids, only 4 of them survive today and that would be my two brothers, my sister and of course myself. Our financial and health situation limits what help we are able to give, to patch work and temporary fixes.
I have had several estimates for stabilizing, repair and leveling the foundation of her house. The estimates range from $12000 to $15000.
I am going to set my goal at $15000, if we can reach a goal of $15000, I believe my sister and I can raise the additional money needed for insulation, air conditioning and any other needed repairs through family, local resources, church, city, meal on wheel, fund raiser , etc. ,etc.
My mother and father raised 10 children in this house, 4 girls and 6 boys, 5 of their 6 boys served the country during the Vietnam War Era, 4 in the Army and 1 in the Marines. Their oldest son served 3 terms in Vietnam and is now interned at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Tx.
My mother and father have always been very involved in their community, church and are proud supporters of our military. My brother’s veteran flag is proudly displayed next to her bed.
I always remember the early days of our life, when on holidays and other special occasions, mom and dad would take us all to park or lake , yes all 10 of us and sometimes that many more cousins. Dad would always be the last one to leave and he would make us clean up the park or picnic area, and we always complained,” dad this is not our trash” and he would always respond with these words that still echo in my mine today, “But it’s your park, always try to keep it cleaner than you found it, so, those who come tomorrow will find it as clean and beautiful as we found it today.” Those words ring true in everything I do. Thank you, dad for teaching us the value of giving back to the community.
If we can reach our goal this will be a great blessing and will reaffirm to mom that people do care and a big thanks for her contribution and service to our community and family.
