Hello my name is Cheyane Hope Cavanugh, I am 7 years old! Thank you in advance for reading my story, here it is! I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and I spent the first 3 months in the NICU at Children's Hospital and the Mario Lemieux transitional unit down the street. I had undergone numerous invasive tests, doctors trying to figure out why I'm not like other babies, with zero accurate results. My mom and dad took me home not knowing why I didn't cry , or why I couldn't eat from a bottle, or why I didn't wiggle around? All they knew was that I was different and that the doctors gave me 3-5 years to live!
Well here I am, 7 years and 7 months old, BEATING the odds. And after countless genetic tests and years of waiting for the insurances to pay for a specific one (targeted exome sequencing) I have a diagnosis! Congenital Contracture Syndrome #7. The seven is there because I am only the 7th person in the entire would to be diagnosed with this. In short, both of my number 17 chromosomes are broken, there is nothing to fix this, it's just who I am!!! I am only 7 but I am a growing girl. My mom and dad do their very best for me but as I continue to grow it is getting to be almost impossible to take me out and about. I love to go places, see new things, I love to swim and visit animals at the zoo! But without your help these things may not be possible for me in the future!
So I ask you, for whatever is possible for you to give, help my mom and dad to be able to purchase a handicap wheelchair accessible Van!
