Open Hearts for Ollie
Donation protected
On July 15th, Ollie Hamilton stayed home from work due to illness. The following day, family and friends were unable to reach him to see how he was feeling. With concern, a friend of the family stopped by his home to check on him and found him unresponsive.
He was quickly brought to St. Luke’s emergency room where it was determined his sodium and potassium levels were dangerously low.
Early Wednesday morning he was life flighted to Iowa City ICU. After many tests, the doctors began treatment to bring his levels back within the normal range. Unfortunately, it was also discovered that Ollie has end-stage liver disease.
The hope is to get him out of the hospital and home by the weekend, it is just a matter of seeing where all of his levels are at that time. Because of the loss of his physical strength during his illness, it has been recommended he starts physical therapy once he is released. This will include 1-2 weeks of therapy for up to 3 hours a day. While Ollie and his family are willing to do whatever it takes to get him healthy again, this means he will not be able to go back to work right away.
Ollie is currently employed at 4 Degree Trailer Co. and does have health insurance. His company has been amazing and has stated he should take as much time as he needs. While we are so grateful for their understanding and support, not working will affect his ability to pay for his bills along with the added cost of what his insurance does not cover.
Ollie is the father of two beautiful daughters, Abbie and Keagan. His most recent title of grandfather, was given to him late last year with the birth of his grandson, Holden.
Ollie has so much to be thankful for, and as hard as it was for him to accept outside help, he knows that it will help him get back to loving life that much sooner. Ollie's oldest daughter, Abbie, will be handling all of his finances during his recovery.
The entire family thanks you for taking the time to read Ollie’s story and if you are moved to do so, any donation is humbly received.
If you would rather make an in person donation, State Bank of Toulon and all of their local branches will be accepting donations in Abigail Hamilton’s name that will go directly into her account.
