Opal's Battle With Cancer

It is with a heavy heart that I am letting you all know that our mother, Opal Lanman, has Stage 1-2 lung cancer in the left lower lobe of her lung. As far as we know it has not metastasized anywhere else and we pray the doctors are right about that!!!
She was diagnosed in September but, she has known for sometime that something just wasn't right with her body! Her health has declined dramatically in the last few years and this has led to her being hospitalized multiple times for pneumonia. However, this last time they confirmed what she suspected all along!!
The doctors originally suggested surgery followed by chemo and radiation but because of the close proximity and possible attachment to the aorta, they have opted to reverse the plan of care. She has completed 3/4 of the chemo/radiation and still has a couple more weeks to go. They have surgery planned to remove the affected lobe tentatively schedule for 12/31/19.
Mom and Dad are two of the hardest working, most caring, compassionate people in the world and as you could imagine, this has taken quite the toll on them. Emotionally, physically and financially!! They have been team truck drivers for many years and "If those wheels arent rolling, there is no money coming in." They have had to park their truck since June and have been doing their best to make ends meet by cashing in on the retirement they have worked so very hard for, just to survive paying for their overhead and medical bills. They are praying that one or maybe both of them can get back on the road by March, hopefully recoup some of their losses and put all of this in their rearview mirror!!
