Gary Brewer Medical Fund

Around 4 am on Tuesday March 10th our Dad woke up in terrible pain.  He was rushed by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Mansfield where they discovered an Aortic Dissection.  Dad would need immediate surgery at another hospital. He was once again taken by ambulance to, what our family has always referred to as BIG Baylor, in downtown Dallas.   Once at Baylor the Cardiac Surgeon informed us on the severity of the situation.  1 in 5 do not make it out of surgery... I assured the Dr that Daddy was a 4 so no need to worry us.  The surgery lasted about 8 hrs.  They replaced his aortic valve and repaired the dissection.  After surgery he was placed in ICU.   Later the same day the Vasuclar Surgeon (cue 2nd Dr involved) discovered a limb threatening blood clot below his right knee.  He had to be taken in for his 2nd surgery in less than 12 hours.  Once blood flow was restored Dad got what is called compartment syndrome in his leg.  Another small procedure was done to relieve the swelling and it was found that a small portion of calf muscle may or may not be getting all it needs to survive...  Wednesday morning started out in another blur, once again Daddy needed surgery for a limb threatening clot, this time below the left elbow. During this surgery with the vascular surgeon, the Cardiac surgeon was exploring the chest to see why Dad's blood pressure could not maintain an appropraite rate.  It was discovered at the time that Dad needed emergency bypass surgery.  After a couple hours the cardio dr came out and told us NO BYPASS! YAY Praise JESUS! However he left the chest open just in case he needed back in... Ok so we are at 4 surgeries in 2 days, with 2 different surgeons and  he now needs dialysis beause his kidneys are just not doing what they need to... Cue Dr #3... Thursday we thought we could breathe a little.... Surgery number 5 to close the chest was performed... but there was a problem.  The colo-rectal surgeon was cocerned about bleeding in the bowels... Cue Dr.s number 4 and 5.... We were told Dad could have a inopperable problem with blood flow to his intestinal tract... This was a devastating blow.  We cried out to God in Prayer litteraly on our knees.  We laid hands on Daddy in ICU Proclaiming Victory over these adversities inside the body God created.   A colonoscopy was performed bedside in ICU.   An hour passed and out came the 2 Dr.s  Things looked ok... some areas to the bowel are not recieving adequete blood flow but that could pick up .   They did not want to subject him to a 6th surgery at this point... Then came the reality check from the the Dr.  "Family... this man is the sickest man in this hospital..." 
  WHAT? Baylor is a huge hospital SURELY there is someone sicker than Gary Brewer?  He was just at my house on Sunday!  Nope... its the truth... Daddy is criticaly ill... and we just dont know....
All this to say, we need some help. Dad has insurance and it will cover some... But so far he has been in ICU for 4 days and will continue to be there for a week maybe more.  Daphne , my stepmom, has been staying in the hospital hotel. That cost is adding up. .  Once Dad gets home he will be unable to work for several weeks maybe months. IF you can give we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts... If you cannot give we ask you to continue to keep us all in your prayers.
