<div>Hallo ihr Lieben, mein Name ist Lorena und ich wende mich heute mit einer Bitte an euch, die mir alles andere als leichtfällt. Es geht um meinen Dackel Polly, mein Herz auf vier Pfoten, mein bester Freund, mein täglicher Begleiter.

<div>Polly ist sieben Jahre alt. Seit zwei Jahren ist er an meiner Seite, treu, verspielt, klug und unendlich liebevoll. Er ist nicht nur ein Hund, er ist Familie. Und genau deshalb bricht es mir das Herz, was er in den letzten Monaten durchmachen musste, und wie tapfer er sich dennoch zurück ins Leben kämpft.

<div><strong>Der erste große Schicksalsschlag</strong>

<div>Im November 2024 hatte Polly seinen ersten Bandscheibenvorfall. Eine Operation war unumgänglich und hat 5.300 € gekostet. Durch intensive Pflege, Geduld und seinen unglaublichen Lebenswillen hat er wieder laufen gelernt. Ich war so stolz auf ihn, und unendlich dankbar.

<div><strong>Der zweite Bandscheibenvorfall – und die Folgen</strong>
</div>

<div>Im Mai 2025 folgte der nächste Schicksalsschlag: ein zweiter, noch schwererer Bandscheibenvorfall. Diesmal war das Rückenmark so stark beschädigt, dass Teile abgestorben sind. Die Chance, dass er die OP überhaupt überlebt, lag bei 20%. Die Tierärzte sagten, Polly würde trotz OP wahrscheinlich nie wieder mit den Hinterbeinen laufen können. Ich habe lange mit mir gerungen, aber mich schließlich für die OP entschieden. Ich konnte doch meinen kleinen Wurm nicht einfach so gehen lassen.

<div>Die OP hat er zum Glück überstanden. Sie hat 6.400 € gekostet. Mein kleiner Kämpfer ist noch bei mir, doch er ist hinten vollständig gelähmt und leider auch inkontinent.
</div>

<div>Was das Ganze noch härter macht: Ich habe wirklich alles getan, um so etwas zu verhindern. Ich weiß, dass Dackel anfällig für Rückenprobleme sind, deshalb war ich immer vorsichtig: Polly ging nie am Halsband, sondern ausschließlich am Geschirr. Ich habe eine Rampe ans Sofa gebaut, ihn alle Treppen runtergetragen, und er ging regelmäßig zur präventiven Physiotherapie, um seine Rückenmuskulatur zu stärken. Ich habe alles richtig gemacht, und trotzdem ist es passiert.

<div>Und ja, natürlich ist Polly versichert. Ich habe monatlich die Beiträge gezahlt. Doch jetzt, wo wir wirklich Hilfe brauchen, zahlt die Versicherung keinen einzigen Cent, weil es sich um eine rassetypische Erkrankung handelt. Man zahlt jeden Monat viel Geld, und wenn’s darauf ankommt, bleibt man allein. Das ist bitter.

<div><strong>24/7 Pflege – eine große Herausforderung</strong>

<div>Seit dem zweiten Vorfall pflege ich Polly rund um die Uhr. Ich wechsle Windeln, wasche täglich seine Betten, reinige ihn, trage ihn. Nehme ihn mit zur Arbeit, damit ich ihn versorgen kann. Er geht weiterhin zur Physiotherapie, um wenigstens ein bisschen Muskelkraft zu erhalten. Ich gebe alles, damit er ein Leben voller Würde, Liebe und Geborgenheit führen kann.

<div>Die erste Operation konnte ich zum Glück mithilfe meiner finanziellen Rücklagen bezahlen, dafür ist so gut wie alles draufgegangen, was ich mir angespart hatte. Die zweite Operation zahle ich gerade in Raten ab, Stück für Stück. Es bleibt am Ende des Monats kaum etwas übrig.

<div>In den letzten sechs Monaten habe ich bereits über 13.000 € für Polly ausgegeben, für zwei Operationen, regelmäßige Physiotherapie, einen Hundewagen, Windeln und Hygieneartikel, Medikamente und Nahrungsergänzungsmittel. Ich habe alles getan, was in meiner Macht stand, um ihm zu helfen.

<div>Doch das ist nicht nur emotional belastend, sondern auch finanziell kaum zu stemmen. Monatlich kommen rund 300 € zusammen, allein für seine Hygieneartikel und Physiotherapie. Und Polly braucht dringend einen individuell angepassten Hunderollstuhl, damit er wieder ein Stück Lebensfreude und Freiheit zurückbekommt. Dieser kostet rund 500 €.

<div>Ich arbeite Vollzeit und habe wirklich alles zurückgeschraubt, alle Abos gekündigt, auf Urlaube verzichtet, jede nicht absolut nötige Ausgabe gestrichen, einfach um jede verfügbare Ressource in Pollys Pflege stecken zu können. Ich habe sogar darüber nachgedacht, mir zusätzlich noch einen Minijob zu suchen, aber es ist zeitlich schlicht nicht machbar.

<div>Polly braucht rund um die Uhr Betreuung. Freunde treffe ich nur noch bei mir zu Hause oder an Orten, wo ich ihn mitnehmen kann. Einen Hundesitter zu finden ist nahezu unmöglich, denn viele trauen sich nicht zu, mit einem gelähmten Hund umzugehen.

<div>Bevor ich mich mit dieser Bitte an euch gewendet habe, habe ich alles versucht: Ich habe sämtliche Luxusgegenstände verkauft, meinen Kleiderschrank ausgemistet, Elektronik und Schmuck bei eBay eingestellt... alles, was ich entbehren konnte. Aber es reicht einfach nicht. Die OP, die laufende Pflege, die Hilfsmittel... das alles übersteigt meine Mittel.
</div>

<div>Ich stoße langsam an meine Grenzen – emotional, körperlich und finanziell. Polly braucht mich gerade mehr denn je, und ich gebe ihm alles, was ich habe. Schlaflose Nächte, volle Waschmaschinen, Tränen auf dem Badezimmerboden, wenn wieder etwas nicht so läuft, wie es sollte.

<div>Es fällt mir unendlich schwer, fremde Menschen um Geld zu bitten. Ich bin keine Person, die schnell um Hilfe ruft oder bettelt. Ich habe lange mit mir gerungen, bevor ich diesen Text geschrieben habe. Aber ich tue es für Polly. Weil ich weiß, dass ich wirklich alles gegeben habe. Und weil ich weiß, dass er eine Chance auf ein schönes Leben verdient.

<div>Ich habe mich ehrlich gesagt lange gegen eine Spendenaktion gesträubt, denn ich dachte, irgendwie schaffe ich das schon alleine. Aber meine Freunde haben immer wieder auf mich eingeredet und meinten: „Versuch es doch einfach mal – vielleicht will ja jemand helfen.“

<div>Polly is seven years old. He has been by my side for two years now—loyal, playful, smart, and endlessly loving. He is not just a dog, he is family. And that’s exactly why what he has had to endure in the last few months breaks my heart.

<div>In November 2024, Polly had his first slipped disc. Surgery was unavoidable and cost €5,300. Through intensive care, patience, and his incredible will to live, he learned to walk again. I was so proud of him, and endlessly grateful.

<div>In May 2025, the next blow followed: a second, even worse slipped disc. This time, his spinal cord was so badly damaged that parts of it died. The vets said Polly would probably never walk again.
</div>

<div>He survived the surgery, which cost €6,400. My little fighter is still here with me, but he is completely paralyzed in the back and unfortunately also incontinent.
</div>

</div>
<div>What makes it even harder: I truly did everything to prevent this. I know dachshunds are prone to back problems, so I was always careful: Polly never wore a collar but only a harness. I got a ramp for the sofa, carried him down all stairs, and he regularly went for preventive physiotherapy to strengthen his back muscles. I did everything right, and yet it happened.

</div>
<div>And yes, of course Polly is insured. I paid the premiums monthly. But now that we really need help, the insurance does not pay a single cent because this is a breed-specific illness. You pay a lot every month, and when it really counts, you’re left alone. That’s bitter.
</div>

<div>Since the second incident, I have been caring for Polly around the clock. I change diapers, wash his bedding daily, clean him, carry him. I take him to work with me so I can care for him. He still goes to physiotherapy to keep at least a little muscle strength. I give everything so he can live a life full of dignity, love, and security.
</div>

</div>
<div>Fortunately, I was able to pay for the first surgery with my savings, which almost completely drained what I had saved up. I am currently paying off the second surgery in installments, bit by bit. By the end of the month, there is hardly anything left.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In the last six months, I have already spent over €13,000 on Polly—two surgeries, regular physiotherapy, a dog stroller, diapers and hygiene products, medication, and supplements. I have done everything in my power to help him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But this is not only emotionally draining, it is also barely manageable financially. His hygiene supplies and physio are about 300 € a month. And Polly urgently needs a custom-made dog wheelchair to regain a bit of joy and freedom. That costs around €500.
</div>

</div>
<div>I work full-time and have really cut back everything—canceled all subscriptions, given up vacations, cut every non-essential expense—just to put every available resource into Polly’s care. I even thought about getting a second job, but it’s simply not possible time-wise.
</div>

</div>
<div>Polly needs round-the-clock care. I only meet friends at home or at places where I can take him. Finding a dog sitter is nearly impossible because many are not comfortable handling a paralyzed dog.
</div>

</div>
<div>Before reaching out with this request, I tried everything: I sold all luxury items, decluttered my wardrobe, listed electronics and jewelry on eBay… everything I could do without. But it’s just not enough. The surgery, the ongoing care, the aids… it all exceeds my means.
</div>

</div>
<div>I’m slowly reaching my limits—emotionally, physically, and financially. Polly needs me now more than ever, and I give him everything I have. Sleepless nights, full washing machines, tears on the bathroom floor when something goes wrong again.
</div>

<div>It is incredibly hard for me to ask strangers for money. I’m not a person who easily calls for help or begs. I struggled for a long time before writing this text. But I do it for Polly. Because I know I’ve truly given everything. And because I know he deserves a chance at a beautiful life.

<div>Honestly, I resisted starting a fundraiser for a long time because I thought, somehow I can manage this alone. But my friends kept encouraging me and said: “Just try it—maybe someone wants to help.”
