Daniel kidney transplant

It’s with great pleasure that I have been asked by my Godson (nephew), Daniel Ontiveros Porraz, ( also known as Dan The Man), to help write his biography.
Daniel was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Alport’s Syndrome, was he was five years old.
This disease causes hearing loss, visual problems, and eventually kidney failure. Daniel has all the symptoms’. At this same time he was also diagnosed with having Down Syndrome. Thank God, Daniel is considered high functioning in this area.
Eventually the disease has also affected his heart, and he also suffers from extreme heart disease.
Daniel has endured a lot though out his life, but he has always continued being emotionally strong and positive.
Seven years ago his kidneys went into renal failure and he had to be put on dialysis to keep him alive. Dialysis is a procedure where Daniel is hooked up to a machine three times a week for four hours. This machine helps to rid his kidneys of toxins and water, to insure less pressure and the likely hood of any disease to attack his kidneys. There is no cure for renal (kidney), failure, only the hope of a kidney transplant if and when appropriate.
Daniel’s wonderful and compassionate medical team at Stanford recently deemed him healthy enough to undergo a kidney transplant. Daniel is so happy, his dream is finally coming true. Patty, my sister had to tell him all the risks involved, even the possibility of the outcome of possibly losing him. She said it was the hardest and saddest thing she has ever done in her life. Patty is definitely my hero, and the strongest person I know. Please continue to send blessings and prayers her way. Help her to continue to be strong and advocate in Daniel’s behalf. Daniel said he was scared, but was willingly to take the risk. His dream is to live healthy and normal life as possible and he knows a transplant will do that. All his youth has been spent being hooked up to a machine, (he’s been the youngest person at the dialysis center). He’s had to endure a very strict diet every day, (extremely heartbreaking during the holidays, no pizza, turkey, tomales, soft drinks, etc.). So many restrictions on his physical activities and just on his day to day life. My Godson, has endured more than his share of life’s trials and tribulations.
Those of you that have had the pleasure of knowing Daniel can whole heartily vouch on his kindness and that wonderful smile he showers on everyone he meets. Daniel is always happy and wanting to help those less fortunate. Daniel loves the cooking channel and knows all the stars and programs. He always dresses up as a cooking persona for Halloween. He loves to make cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Many times he bakes for church fundraisers, for the homeless shelters, etc. He recently was taught and given a sewing machine. He now makes quilts, placemats, napkins and toiletry bags for the homeless. Instead of asking for something for himself, (birthday gifts, etc.), he asks for money or supplies to make things for the needy. I truly believe that God has blessed us with Daniel. He is “an angel on this earth”. To remind us what is really important.
When God chooses the day for Daniel’s transplant. Daniel and his mom will have to spend at least four months near Stanford, in case of any emergencies. This is a requirement. This means my sister will need to maintain two homes and the bills that go with that. Just like the rest of us, my sister is barely able to keep one household covered financially.
In behalf of Daniel and his family I would like to ask for monetary donations for their pending hardship. Every dollar sent means that the family’s financial and emotional burden is lessen. Please help them to have a peace of mind and be able to concentrate on caring for Daniel.
