Since June 2022, he has been battling salivary gland cancer, which, despite surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, is now considered palliative. But Sebastian refuses to give up. He is hoping for alternative treatments abroad, which are, however, extremely expensive (including travel and accommodation in Australia, as well as the experimental injections).

<div><strong>ABOUT THE TREATMENT:</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Our therapy utilizes the peptide Buforin IIb, which selectively targets cancer cells via cell-surface interactions and can penetrate cancer cell membranes without harming normal cells. While preclinical studies by the National Cancer Institute showed Buforin IIb's effectiveness against over 60 cancer cell lines, its short half-life (1.5 hours) made frequent dosing impractical and expensive. To address this, we developed an RNA-based version in lipid nanoparticles, enabling sustained peptide production and secretion in the body for 4-6 weeks. Early human safety studies, including stage III-IV metastatic lung cancer patients, have shown the treatment to be safe with minimal side effects and promising clinical results. Seit Juni 2022 kämpft er gegen Ohrspeicheldrüsenkrebs, der trotz Operationen, Bestrahlungen und Chemotherapien inzwischen palliativ ist. Doch Sebastian gibt nicht auf. Er hofft auf alternative Behandlungen im Ausland, die jedoch extrem teuer (Reise und Unterbringung nach Australien plus die experimentellen Injektionen) sind.

<div><strong>ÜBER DIE BEHANDLUNG:</strong>

<div>Unsere Therapie basiert auf dem Peptid Buforin IIb, das gezielt Krebszellen über Zelloberflächen-Interaktionen angreift und in deren Membranen eindringen kann, ohne normale Zellen zu schädigen. Präklinische Studien des National Cancer Institute zeigten, dass Buforin IIb bei über 60 Krebszelllinien wirksam ist. Allerdings war seine kurze Halbwertszeit (1,5 Stunden) ein Hindernis, da häufige Dosierungen notwendig und kostspielig waren. Um dieses Problem zu lösen, entwickelten wir eine RNA-basierte Version in Lipid-Nanopartikeln, die eine kontinuierliche Produktion und Freisetzung des Peptids im Körper für 4–6 Wochen ermöglicht. Zusätzlich haben wir krebsspezifische Elemente integriert. Erste Sicherheitsstudien am Menschen, einschließlich Patienten mit metastasiertem Lungenkrebs im Stadium III-IV, haben gezeigt, dass die Behandlung sicher ist, minimale Nebenwirkungen aufweist und vielversprechende klinische Ergebnisse liefert.

<div>My name is Sebastian, I am 44 years old from Bad Aibling near Rosenheim, a proud father of a wonderful 7-year-old son who fills life with his laughter and energy. Incredibly bright and curious, he explores the world. I am a husband to a wonderful woman who deserves a better fate than this and was, until recently, the rock of our family, which now faces the greatest challenge of our lives.
</div>
<div>In June 2022, I was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer. After surgery and intensive radiation in the summer of 2022, during which part of my face was paralyzed by the procedure, the doctors at the Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich gave me good chances of being in remission. We drew hope and looked forward to a fresh start, especially since we were in the middle of building our dream home and family project. Despite the exhausting treatments and daily radiation sessions, we managed to move in by New Year's Eve 2022. Though the house was not complete—stairs, a carport, and many other things were still missing—we had a roof over our heads and a home to live in together.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, our plan to complete the house and move forward was shattered in March 2023. What initially seemed like a herniated disc turned out to be bone metastases. A whole vertebra had to be removed, and my lower spine was stabilized—followed by radiation, anti-hormone therapy, and my first chemotherapy in early 2024. We regained hope after the treatment, only to learn in September that metastases were also found in my lungs and liver, and I have been undergoing a second round of chemotherapy since October 2024.
</div>
<div>The harsh diagnosis: According to doctors, I am now considered palliative—although I refuse to believe it. At 44, no one should have to confront their own mortality. I hold onto my hope and continue to live with a smile—if only to support my young wife and 7-year-old son, who need their dad. In Germany and under current medical guidelines, there is no prospect of a cure. Everything we are doing now is merely to prolong my life. But I refuse to give up. There are promising treatment options abroad, but they come with enormous costs.

<div>I promised my family to do everything I can to spend as much time with them as possible. My son recently asked me, “Dad, will you help me when I move out when I grow up?” I promised him that I would do everything I could to live to see that moment with him.
</div>
<div>Now I need your help. The financial burden of these alternative treatments is beyond what we as a family can manage. Every contribution—no matter how small—brings us closer to hope and the chance to gain precious time together.

Unglaublich aufgeweckt und neugierig entdeckt er die Welt. Ich bin Ehemann, einer wunderbaren Frau die in ihrem Leben besseres verdient hat als dieses Schicksal und war bis vor kurzem der Fels in der Brandung von unserer Familie, die jetzt vor der größten Herausforderung unseres Lebens steht.

<div>Im Juni 2022 erhielt ich die Diagnose Ohrspeicheldrüsenkrebs. Nach einer Operation und intensiver Bestrahlung im Sommer 2022 bei dem ein teil meines Gesichtes bereits durch den Eingriff gelähmt wurde, gaben mir die Ärzte am Klinikum rechts der Isar in München immerhin gute Chancen, in Remission zu sein. Wir schöpften Hoffnung und freuten uns auf einen Neuanfang zumal wir damals mitten im Rohbau unseres Hauses steckten – unser großer Traum und Familienprojekt. Trotz der belastenden Behandlungen täglich bestrahlt zu werden haben wir es geschafft, zu Silvester 2022 einzuziehen. Zwar fehlten noch Treppen, der Carport und viele andere Dinge, aber wir hatten ein Dach über dem Kopf und ein Zuhause, in dem wir gemeinsam leben konnten.
</div>
<div>Leider wurde unser Plan, das Haus weiter fertig zustellen und nach vorne zu blicken, im März 2023 zerschlagen. Was zunächst wie ein Bandscheibenvorfall erschien, stellte sich als Knochenmetastase heraus. Ein ganzer Wirbelkörper musste entfernt werden, und die Wirbelsäule im unteren Rücken versteift - gefolgt von Bestrahlungen, einer AntiHormontherapie, der ersten Chemotherapie Anfang 2024. Nach der Therapie haben wir wieder Hoffnung gehabt - bis wir nun im September lernen mussten, das auch in Lunge und Leber Metastasen zu finden sind und nun eine zweite Chemotherapie bereits seit Oktober 2024 läuft.
</div>
<div>Die bittere Diagnose: Laut Ärzten bin ich Palliativ - wenngleich ich daran nicht glauben mag. Mit 44 Jahren sollte man sich nicht mit seinem eigenen Tod beschäftigen müssen. Und ich halte meine Hoffnung hoch und gehe dennoch mit einem Lächeln durchs Leben – allein schon um meine junge Frau und meinen 7-jährigen Sohn zu unterstützen denn brauchen den Papa. In Deutschland und nach den Leitlinien der Schulmedizin gibt es keine Heilungsperspektive mehr. Alles was wir aktuell tun, soll mein Leben lediglich verlängern. Doch ich weigere mich, aufzugeben. Es gibt Behandlungsmöglichkeiten im Ausland, die vielversprechend sind, jedoch enorme Kosten verursachen.
</div>
<div>Ich habe meiner Familie versprochen, alles zu tun, um noch möglichst viel Zeit mit ihnen zu haben. Mein Sohn fragte mich kürzlich: „Papa, wirst du mir später helfen, wenn ich ausziehe, wenn ich erwachsen bin?“ Ich habe ihm versprochen, alles dafür zu geben, dass ich diesen Moment mit ihm erleben darf.
