"Hello, my name is Koyak and I am just an absolute cuddle monster standing in front of you asking you for your help with my long-term medication and ongoing veterinary care."
Born on 14th February 2014 Cupid's arrow hit us square in the heart when Koyak bound into our lives as an 18 month bundle of positive energy. It was clear from the start he had a heart the size of a small planet and we instantly fell in love with him and so too does any one who has the pleasure of meeting him.
Koyak's Story so far.............
1. July 2020 - Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) requiring daily oral medication of thyroid replacement hormone. (£45/month) and regular blood screening (£200/6 months).
2. October 2022 - Koyak lost his sight! (SARDS - Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) Unfortunately, the blindness is permanent with no known cure or treatment. However, Koyak adapted within only a few weeks and now you would not even know he was completely blind! :)
3. December 2024 - Koyak was found to have gallstones requiring long-term medication to attempt to dissolve them and avoid surgery (£25/month), along with a strict low/fat/high protein diet (£40/month) and regular pain relief. Although gallstones are not usually serious, if left untreated they can lead to other health problems such as infections and blockages and require regular monitoring through ultrasound screening.
4. During the ultrasound scan a small growth was found on his Spleen, although only small (<2cm) at the moment, it is something that needs to be monitored through regular ultrasound scans! (£220/scan)
Although none of this medical conditions are life threatening and Koyak still has a good prognosis with well managed treatments, his medications and ongoing veterinary care is expensive! Unfortunately, we have been unable to insure Koyak due to some historical issues prior to him joining our furmily. Therefore, I am asking for help to keep this lil love monkey bumbling along delighting all who meet him and generally making this world a better place.
